My husband and I have had so many conversations with sales reps who seem genuinely bewildered as to why we don't want unnecessary apps or wifi hookups on stuff. One was a grill. I straight-up had to tell the guy "if a thing is capable of making fire, I don't want it connected to the internet."

A centrist Republican wouldn't get past the opening stages of a primary, and a centrist Democrat will just get painted as a radical leftist by the media until centrist voters write off any attempt to appeal to them as insincere (see: Harris 2024.)
