Both of these upcoming cohorts are sitting at about 1/3 full with a week to go. I'm really puzzled as to why registration has been so slow. Somewhat in desperation, there's now the code SIXTY you can use for 60% off registration.

Next up at #outlier2025, Zan Armstrong introduces diagnostic charts - the middle ground of really useful charts beyond simple “explore” or “explain” charts - some fascinating science-inspired examples!

I've checked the box on "despair." Guess it's time to "get back to work." Inspired by @albertocairo.com's advice, in this new EffAff post, Gabby and I consider how simple visualizations 📊 of social change might encourage resilience on the path ahead. effaff.com/hope-despair...

This course not only introduced me to the world of birding but also reignited my interest in creative coding! It taught me what a fun/creative/supportive coding environment *could* look like, full of whimsical sketches and whacky ideas. Would highly recommend!

I'm going to run through all of the regional variants. One of the magic parts of this project is that while the code base is the same, the natural geography of the place and the human habits of the birders means they're all different in form and color. Ready? 🧵

I was lucky to be paired with the amazing @hannahdormido.bsky.social as part of the @datavizsociety.bsky.social mentorship program over the past couple of months. We had weekly chats about life, careers, & journalism. And she guided me through writing a fun story! 📊👉 charlotte-walkability.vercel.app

This one took a bit of work, but really like the quilting feel of it. Took my earlier #Generative #linocut and added half size stippled black triangles. Rotation of the stippled triangles also set by the roll of a d4. #GenerativeDice #dataart #dataviz 📊

📊 Two of the things Luisa Vasquez (@vluisa.bsky.social) loves are reading and sewing. So, when she saw a way she could combine her two loves while sprinkling in some data viz, she had to document her process in creating a quilt visualizing her 2023 reading list. nightingaledvs.com/quilting-my-...

I’m excited to share a data art project I’ve been working on this month! It’s a quilt made using the data of all the books I read in 2023 📊
A photo a crinkly and colorful quilt. It’s made up of 28 color coded squares each encoding a book read, listed in 7 rows of 4 quilt squares. Small hand made stitches add texture to the quilt. The quilt is pictured again, one is highlighted and describes the structure of the quilt “each block represents one book I read in 2023 for a total of 28 books”A horizontal bar chart is made up of photo-clipped quilt squares. It shows that I read 8 fantasy books, 5 data visualization books, and 1 thriller book amongst other categories of contemporary fiction and historical fiction.A histogram shows the number of books I read of each length, 13 of which were between 300-400 pages with one outlier of length 582.

Thanks for the invite @amycesal.bsky.social ! Going to share some of my data viz projects as I learn & grow. This is one of my favorites so far - a set of 4 coasters about the Colombian coffee trade (images show front & back of each coaster)
A coaster depicting that Colombian coffee coffee is exported to over 41 countries and that of the $409 million USD of coffee exported from Colombia in 2022, 43% went to the United StatesA coaster that describes the light, sweet, and floral flavors of Colombia coffee and shows that 89% of Colombian exports are whole or ground beans, 9% soluble coffee, and 2% brewedA coaster that highlights that most colombian coffee is handpicked on steep mountainside coffee farms. 96% of which are small coffee farms with <5 hectares.A coaster that describes how Colombia is the 2nd largest producer of coffee worldwide, and the largest sole exporter of Arabica beans. Colombian coffee sells for 2-3 times as much as other types of coffee to its labor intensive growing process.
