When I put "So anti-AI, it is *offputting* for some >:)" in my bio i meant it SO HARD that I just scoured through my (now) 155 followers and blocked 5 of them for being obvious AI slop accounts. And this is an account I *want* to gain a following with! I don't even let AI boost my follower count! 😎

Sometimes I go to r/Romantasy to remind myself that I'm doin' it pretty damn right.

What do you want to see in romantasy? What do you hate seeing in romantasy?

Romantasy is trope city. That’s not always a bad thing. But certain things can get old, especially when they’re not done well.

The list I’ve come up with so far is -
• No more stabby, sarcastic FMCs
• No more brooding shadow daddies
• More FMCs that are 30+
• More FMCs with a learned skill that took years

Let’s see less of
- FMC discovers she is actually a princess / FMC becomes queen because she’s too special not to be
- Mates who can walk in each others dreams (it’s a cool concept I guess but I’m just tired of it…)
- Mates mind reading (ughhh also cool I guess but I’m soooo tiredddd of ittt)
- “Scenting” each others arousal lmao. Like that gives me a bit of the ick

Let’s see more of
- Soft boi MMC who are competent and can take care of themselves, but are not brooding badass warriors with a god complex
- Friends to lovers (don’t get me wrong, enemies to lovers is a vibe, but it’s so popular that the alternative is hard to find)
- FMC introducing MMC to their (magical) world and them having to learn and adjust instead of the other way around. Let’s have female characters be the kmowledgable ones for once lol. Like why can’t there be a fae lady saving a human man and going on adventures together??

Regular people. There’s enough royalty/nobility/chosen one fantasy out there. I also don’t need assassins, spies or thieves.

People with existing close personal relationships. I’ve had enough of orphans/outcasts and found families.

Settings that aren’t medieval/Middle Ages analogues. Let’s go older and newer.

Sex scenes that aren’t just the two horniest people in the world getting off. I want joy, humour, mistakes, frustration, experimentation.

Definitely want more FMC's that are late twenties+. It seems to cap at around 25. Also, FMC's that arent "waife-like" and super thin or only considered attractive when they are.

What I don't want: Abusive or coercive MMC's. It's not hot when an FMC says no and the MMC ignores it because "her body says otherwise." Fuck off.

Romanticized trauma is sick too. These authors giving their characters traumatic life experiences without it serving an actual purpose, like character depth/development, are gross.

1) Nope lol 2) Jokes aside, there seems to be a reoccurring general expectation that the monster I'm writing is a pre-existing one (werewolves, minotaurs, gargoyles, etc) but it's a new thing, an OC. Closest thing bodywise is a xenomorph or demogorgon, though
