Machi's gender theory

from outside to inside:

1. gender-norm - "mother bird"
societal gender norms, gender roles, the conceptualizations of what gender is, how it should be and all of the semantics and politics connected to it

2. perceived gender - "nest"
the gender "performance", as Butler might reductively call it, can either be convincing or not. Whether the immediate surroundings consider us to meet their expectations for gender, i.e. not conflicting their world-view and in doing so confusing/aggravating them, or whether we fail to impacts the interplay between the individual and the group. But also the self-perception is included in the "nest", what we see in the mirror, how we see ourselves, etc.

3. performed gender - "shell"
If perceived gender is defined by the success of the performance then the performed gender is the performance itself. Together with the above three sections I consider it to make up the "outer gender". The performed gender can either agree with the inner gender via honest self-expression but also disagree (to avoid conflict between shell and nest) on purpose, f.e. via boymoding.

4. conscious gender - "albumen (egg white)"
most would call this the "gender identity". What is meant is what the individual sees themselves as, their current inner self-perception, the aware thoughts regarding their gender identity, and so on. Unlike Butler I consider this an integral part of the term "gender".

5. subconscious gender - "yolk"
I wish to stress that I consider this to be the truest "gender" there is. When, for instance, a transgender person is still in denial then their conscious gender may still be falsely cisgender, but there is a psychological inner core that, depending on size and opacity (metaphorically speaking) creates feelings of dysphoric, euphoric or apathetic nature. A self-identified cis man may at a deeper level, which has yet to break through to the conscious, be something else. The yolk can only be assumed, even by the self.

Every time I try to work on myself and grow I feel disconnected from those close to me, despite of my best efforts not to. Then, every time I've pursued periods of self refinement, I've entered a period of solitude, and I don't know what this means or how to get around it.

Books I've read recently! Both incredibly tough to read, but at the same time very interesting. I found Nietzche's Beyond Good and Evil easier to pick up from time to time, but overall Camus' The Myth of Sisyphus (which takes a lot from Nietzche btw) was, imo, a bit easier to comprehend.
