Intimate partner violence (IPV) affects 1 in 3 women worldwide. During COVID-19, many survivors lost access to in-person support, contributing to a “shadow pandemic” of violence. As support moved online, many survivors faced barriers - limited access to tech, lack of privacy, and safety concerns.
Black and white image with shadows of young woman looking down through a window. Quote by Alexandra Wakefield, MSc Behaviour Change, UCL Centre for Behaviour Change: “With millions of women and girls affected by intimate partner violence, COVID‑19 showed that access alone isn’t enough.
Our review demonstrates why safer, privacy‑led digital design is essential if survivors are to engage safely and sustain support.”

🧠 This week’s research highlight: Would you share your health data to receive personalised advice? Senior Research Fellow @viviantonop.bsky.social co-authored a study on privacy concerns & trust in personalised health apps with 2000 people in London & Hong Kong. 👉 www.cambridge.org/core/blog/20...
Figure 2 (from paper). Willingness by city to share data with a health app if a government health agency (a) developed the app or (b) had access to the data. Willingness was much lower in Hong Kong than London.

Quote from Dr Vivi Antonopoulou, UCL Centre for Behaviour Change, as part of World Alzheimer's Month 2025: "We are interested in understanding how people respond to living with a robot in their home. Then we want to take this study further and design robots specifically for people living with dementia. That may include changes to the robot’s communication style or its ability to provide memory prompts for people with dementia."

We're proud to share new research led by MSc Behaviour Change alumna Marilena Schnorrenberg. They used the COM-B model to explore the barriers & facilitators to engage with carbon footprint reports via banking apps. 🔗 Read the paper: www.emerald.com/insight/cont...
Two mobile phones, showing examples of carbon footprint report technology. The left screen shows a breakdown of carbon emissions by month on different categories (shopping, food, travel, others), as well as by individual transactions. The right screen shows compares the user's carbon emissions compared to the UK average, and breaks this down by category.
