Welp, I fell into the candy trap. I bought the neighborhood children some candy and I just knew I would not like it. Decided to try it…turns out I like the new candy that’s out for this generation. Decided to fill all the candy dishes with it. Now I am on the hunt for new Halloween candy.

My dog does this thing now when he lays or cuddles to go to sleep he also pouts or sighs a bit. I’m sitting here seriously wondering how was his day so hectic? I mean was it the additional 8 hours of sleep? Or the impromptu rendezvous with the neighbor dog? And yes, my baby sleeps with his baby.😂

How does Roman glass get those iridescent flakes? Nanolamellae. Basically, as the glass ages in alternatingly damp and dry soil, the silica in it precipitates out, then re-deposits in incredibly thin layers, which act as photonic crystal “mirrors” and result in the incredible colors.

For #FrescoFriday, let us go underground to trace the birth of the grotesque. Renaissance artists famously crawled through the dirt to explore the ruins of Nero's Domus Aurea by torchlight. They found ceilings covered in delicate, painted candelabra. #AncientBluesky 🏺 🧵
FABULLUS. DETAIL, ROOM OF ACHILLES AT SCYROS, 64-68 CE. DOMUS AUREA

The scalloped semi-dome of a room in Nero's buried palace, constructed from rough exposed brick and mortar at the edges. The intact plaster of the dome features delicate painted decorations radiating outwards. These linear bands look like spindly candelabra, interspersed with small mythological figures and floral motifs, offering a glimpse into opulent, lightweight architectural fantasies. Given the importance of this room, the work was likely executed by the master painter Fabullus himself rather than left to his pupils. This space serves as the starting point for our guide Bernardino Betti, known as "Il Pinturicchio" or the "rich painter" for his love of using gold in his work. He is widely considered to be the first painter of grotesques, a style directly copied from these subterranean "grotte" or caves. But where exactly did he find his inspiration?

Calling all archaeologists with expertise in British stone tools! These two just turned up among my father-in-law’s house contents. Unfortunately no provenance data. The narrow one is quite thick, diamond-shaped in cross-section, and the flat end appears to be broken.
Two stone tools, one narrow and pointed the other leaf-shaped, laid out on a white background.
