Scientific literature is vast and interconnected. Some connections are made explicit through citation networks. Others are latent, implicit connections that can only be revealed through manual review or text mining. There’s a whole field of research dedicated to this - elicit.com/blog/litera...

Canadian artists depicting various scenes of modernity ca. 1900. What would be analogous scenes to depict today? Could you imagine someone painting a coder working with Github Copilot, a Waymo car, a server farm?
The Weaver, by William Brymner (1885). A solitary woman operates a pedal loom. The Train, Winter, by Clarence Gagnon (circa 1914) . A train, spewing black smoke, cuts through a snow-covered landscape.Saint Catherine Street, Montreal, by Maurice Cullen (1899). A streetcar rolls along a church and some artificially lit buildings, in a nighttime winter scene. Smog, Port of Montreal, by Suzor-Coté (1914). Smoke spews out of factories on the bank of the Saint Lawrence River.

Key things that seem hard: - digging really deep into a small set of specific seminal papers - careful thinking about the methodologies, biases - weighing various effect sizes against each-other
