Barrel cactus in northwest Tucson with a shiny, almost candy red hue. Makes me think of sports cars and scandalously delicious lollipops.
Short cactus along curb in parking lot with many fresh fruit along top rim/crown of main barrel. Three fruit maintain their flowers.

Found myself watching an AZPM piece on agave, and remembered a picture that was taken recently along the road up to Rice Peak. The color and location means it's an agave chrysantha.
A sharp asparagus shaped stem pushes up from the center bottom, with many blossoming flowers hanging off the sides of the stalk, sometimes called paniculatus, or tufts. A gradient of sky splotched with clouds hangs in the milieu.

I find that my ability to enjoy the natural world around me comes and goes with the stress of daily living. Is it a worth while goal to improve the value of simply seeing the world again?
East facing during sunset with Catalina Mountains framed by trees below and bright, sun catching clouds above. Three major frames play a dance with dark, hearty green mesquites, violet mountain peaks, and cold orange and grey cumulonimbus clouds.

Phainopeplas (Passeriformes: Ptiliogonatidae: Phainopepla nitens) are common in hot areas of the American southwest and Mexico. They eat insects and fruit, but their favorite food is desert mistletoe (Santalaceae: Phoradendron californicum). Joshua Tree National Park, California, 09 Apr 2018.

THREAD Not all attention is good attention In July 2025 the book "Mastering Machine Learning: From Basics to Advanced" made headlines after it was discovered that a large part of its citations were made up or substantively incorrect. Suboptimal. www.inkl.com/news/bo... 1/9
Book Cover for Mastering Machine Learning: From Basics to Advanced. Even the title doesn't sound human does it?

Part of what makes life so beautiful to me is understanding the struggle that takes place to get where we are.
Two flowers blossom on a paddle cactus, while many more wait in the background for their chance to shine

I enjoy walking with my dog as she reminds me it's okay to be curious about things we already know. Watching the quail run around, listening to the wind under the bridge, sitting in the sunlight.
Right hand petting small dog up close.

Foxes In Love @foxes-in-love.bsky.social · 11/04/2025
A comic of two foxes, one of whom is blue, the other is green. In this one, Green has a bottle of pink beverage, and is grimacing in disgust with his tongue out. Blue looks at him with a puzzled frown.
Green: Hfprrtyöh. It's yucky.
Blue: Didn't you already try that once, and you didn't like it?

Recovering from the full-body cringe of disgust, Green regains his composure and looks at Blue, who still looks puzzled.
Green: Yeah, but it's good to give things you didn't like a second try sometimes.
Blue: Why would you?
Green: Either you find out you like it after all, or you find that you were right all along.

The foxes kiss.
Green: It's a win-win.
Blue: If you say so.

So here's my top tip for science fiction writers: don't try to predict the future, just go with the stupidest idea you can think of. It'll probably end up happening. Human progress is a narrow target to hit, but human stupidity might actually be infinite

For a number of years I had an april fool gag set up on twitter, where I scheduled a tweet for april 1st saying "actually I'm still alive". Then, if I was still alive on march 31st I'd make sure to reschedule the tweet for the following year.
