Every time I asked a more advanced writer how to write a novel, they would say some version of, "You just have to do it to learn how to do it." But I wanted a solution, something that would take me from "I can't do it" to "oh I'm doing it." visyap.mymagic.page/do-i-know-en...

Do I know enough? (Or, how to stop stalling and start drafting)
Touch the project as regularly as you can, and accept that it'll feel, often, simply like work.

I have a new story out on Reactor today, my first since my collection came out in 2021. It's about a teenage poet, friend breakups, and wrestling with inherited faith. There are spaceships that are massive libraries. It would make me very happy if you read and shared it! 😊

A translator is forced to confront whether or not she has become an unwitting collaborator with the people who have invaded her home when she translates important religious texts...perhaps too well. Next week. "Into Your Sun-Blessed Life" by @visyap.bsky.social!

March Newsletter: on deciding which novel project to focus on. All things being equal, you should choose the story that you think will be easiest to write. It's going to be hard regardless, so why not pick something that you think will be quicker? visyap.mymagic.page/deciding-on-...

Feb newsletter is up! "I wouldn't wish the desire to write a novel on my worst enemy, but also, if you feel you have to, there is likely nothing I can say to convince you otherwise. It's too difficult a project to pursue unless you really, really want it." visyap.mymagic.page/how-i-wrote-...

Jan newsletter post up! "I have diary entries detailing how, in the inevitable insanity leading up to publication, I was fairly certain no one would buy my book (except for, like, the 100-150 people would purchase it because they like me as a person)." visyap.mymagic.page/the-math-if-...
