Hi, would you like to be paid pittance to contribute towards restricting your own future career opportunities?
Email says:

I'm reaching out about a remote Subject Matter Expert – Chart & Data Visualization Analysis opportunity that could be a strong fit for your data visualization and quantitative analysis background.

This is an AI-training project with , where data-driven domain experts interpret charts, graphs, and data visualizations with quantitative rigor and design unambiguous, objectively answerable questions from them — producing the high-quality expert input used to train next-generation AI systemsThe work can involve interpreting domain-specific charts, graphs, and data visualizations with a high level of accuracy and domain terminology precision, designing clear multi-step quantitative reasoning questions based on information-rich charts, developing objectively answerable tasks focused on in-depth reasoning, calculations, comparisons, and trend analysis, and providing precise answers with detailed step-by-step explanations of your reasoning and calculation process. Contributors from Medicine & Biostatistics, Finance & Economics, Engineering & Physics, Earth Sciences & GIS, Data Science & Statistics, or Operations & Manufacturing are especially encouraged.

A key requirement is demonstrated expertise working with domain-relevant charts or quantitative data — at least two years of professional, academic, or research experience — plus the ability to use correct chart terms, units, axes, scales, legends, confidence intervals, and time periods, and to write unambiguous, objectively answerable questions with clear calculations in English.

No prior AI experience is required. The focus is on your domain expertise, your chart-interpretation accuracy, and your ability to communicate complex quantitative concepts clearly in both written and verbal form.

Would you be open to taking a look at the opportunity? Just reply "Interested" and I'll share the complete application details and next steps.

The post-summer return to proper work has started off in very good shape with an enjoyable two days delivering data viz training to a lovely group of smart enthusiastic people in London. You can’t tell that from only seeing the back of their heads in this pic, you’ll have to take my word for it
A pic of my training room with people working hard on an exercise which means they cannot afford to spend even a second turning round to pose for the camera. As a bonus there’s some nice exposed brutal steel from the foundations of this building.

Not sure if Wenger has any input on FIFAs broadcast graphics but we used to produce these for him at Arsenal ~2016 - of all the stats/viz produced this was one he seemed to particularly engage with (the data/metrics/concepts down to Jaeson Rosenfeld, I just set up the viz design/routines)

Alternative reading of this: "Our mistake was to lay off veteran technicians too abruptly without having fully slurped up all their knowledge first" www.bbc.com/news/article...
"Mistakenly, we thought that by just introducing artificial intelligence and ingesting the design requirements that we had, that would produce a high-quality product," he said.

(Bloomberg via Getty Images A Ford truck on a production line, passing through inspection checks, at a plant in Ohio. A female worker wearing a high-vis jacket looks on.)

Poon reportedly pointed to automated tools lacking the training and expertise of veteran technicians - many of whom he said had left the company before their knowledge could be used to improve its tech.

He said these human workers had since been reintroduced to train up its systems, as well as mentor younger workers.

This post outlines the main sections of the work and offers a preview of some of the contents, the centrepiece of which are the episode visual compositions augmented by sonified jazz 'vignettes' for every scene. Huge thanks to Anne-Marie, Miriam, and Duncan - magnificent creative partners.

I do enjoy a chart where extreme values are permitted to intrude into areas beyond their allotted spatial boundary. Feel like they warrant a special name, capturing how they visually behave like a rocket launch or an out-of-the-park shot.

A delightful new artwork for my office courtesy of the talents of @alexselbyb.bsky.social with his Émile Cheysson-inspired 3D map depicting 'nombre de bises' (typical number of kisses when greeting) across France's départements. Upon receiving this piece I gave Alex... a firm handshake of thanks.
View of my office back wall with various artworks and my book, but what is this new guy in position 3?Let's take a closer look, ah we see a new work from The Economist's top top talent Alex Selby-Boothroyd alongisde another a previous work also from The Economist's top top talent Alex Selby-BoothroydBut what is it? Its a 3D map of France's regions with a pattern indicating the typical number of kisses executed per greeting, ranging from 1 (I am a Yorkshireman so would say that is already too many) to 4 (superspreaders)Some further close ups to show the fine craftsmanship

This looks such a fun read by @simonrogers.bsky.social - “What We Ask Google” (available at www.penguin.co.uk/books/470261...). Just received my copy and I love how someone framed it as an insight into how social posting reveals who we want to be (seen as), whereas search reveals who we are.

It was an honour and such a purely wonderful experience being part of the SND's 47th Creative Competition judging, encountering so much elite work and having the fortune to meet and mix with some of the best people in this industry. When such talented people are also the nicest people, its ace.

I, Andy Kirk, have humorously updated a caption from a famous scene in Jaws to now read "You're gonna need a further home to store old data viz books". This is because RJ keeps buying old data viz books and he's starting to stress me out because I just don't know where he's going to put them all. I find it hard enough to store my books and I'm not scooping up copies of every book with a chart in it published at any time in human history.

So good as always. (Side note: If it was flammable, I would burn Lane Assist to the ground)
We live in a world defined increasingly by instability and insanity. It's utterly bewildering. A man in a red baseball cap is sitting in a room assassinating foreign leaders like he's playing a video game. Children die and nobody cares. You don't know if that photo is real. You don't know if that news really happened. You seem to spend half your life punching in six-digit authentication codes. The YouTube video you want to watch comes with 50 seconds of non-skippable adverts. The lane assist on your car keeps fighting you. Politicians of all stripes insist "it didn't used to be like this" , and everyone nods in recognition.
