...reduction. While Saarland isnt a city state, its comparatively well run despite also being post-industrial. Although in this case steel, rather than shipyards. Also its the only state with an absolute majority government!

To be fair, Bremen is very working class, which is one of the biggest determining factors in Afd vote share. Also Bremen has just been poorly run. Yes they are massively indebted but they are one of the 2 states (alongside saarland) receiving consolidation funds from the feds, which requires debt...

yeah. theyre mroe decentralized than other parties, its in the natue of their founding. although especially inside the federal party that is changing, which is good. Its currently too easy to cause trouble with just a few votes from one or two branches www.handelsblatt.com/politik/deut...

Die Sorge der Spitze war groß, aber unbegründet: Mit erstaunlicher Mehrheit stimmen die Grünen für eine neue Parteistruktur. Der Plan: Weniger Basisdemokratie, mehr Professionalisierung.

actually increasing the share of tax revnue that goes to local govs on top of increasing grants (which all states are doing).
010
visdra.bsky.social @visdra.bsky.social · 29/06/2026
...to the local govs. That is the main cause of the current fiscal problems locally. The other being the decline in corporation tax revenue which will hopefully reverse in the near future. but in the end its the state govs who are responsible for local finances. Here you have to commend Bavaria for.

visdra.bsky.social @visdra.bsky.social · 29/06/2026
Actually from whta I understand the states are in the best fiscal situation then the feds, then the local govs. theres recently an agreement between the states and the feds to stop the issue where the feds pass a law creating some sort of service which then must be paid for with out giving money...

To be fair the Berlin state party is very far from the federal greens or the other state parties
020
visdra.bsky.social @visdra.bsky.social · 09/05/2026
I think one issue is also that theres not much institiutional competence in the Berlin state, even other eastern states are siginificantly better than that. Similar thing might go for the civil sevice which doesnt seem terribly competent either

1. Very Catholic, therefore high birth rates (by developed world standards) 2. Strong economy, but due to its rural nature not the same COL as cities 3. For the Emsland specifically theres also this to consider: www.ndr.de/geschichte/c...

Am 5. Mai 1950 beschließt der Bundestag den Emslandplan. Dadurch erlebt die niedersächsische Region einen tiefgreifenden Strukturwandel - und mausert sich vom "Armenhaus der Republik" zur Boom-Region.

Berlins political situation is so weird. Its like everything is amplified there. the cons/socdems are way more pro-car than in other cities on the othe hand greens/left are way more anti private business than they are elsewhere

The states used to be responsible for the autobahn kind of like the interstates in the US. When that was changed, it was decided to do it in the form of a company. also its a llc so the government controls it directly, unlike DB

If the government wanted to limit them they would have to convince the constitutional court that public transport is a service that cannot be substituted by something else and I dont know how they would do that

Oh really, that would be great but the fgsv seemingly really dislikes makes these kind of specific reccomendations. I wish they would also recommend ashphalt as surface material everywhere, everyone in the north is using pavers, even if thats better than the complete lack of bike lanes elsewhere

Yeah, it was put up quickly and cheaply in the 60s/70s so the kids of coal miners and steel workers could go to uni and the region could have a future. And in that sense it did its job: The ruhr did a lot better than comparable post-industrial regions, the buildings just werent very future proof

The thing is the rules that exist (ERA 2010) arent very prescriptive and they´re also only recommendations, so local government can and do divert from them.

While faster permitting would be great thats not really where the crux of the issue lies. The bottleneck in the capacity of the rail industry to design and build those projects. Thats why theyre pushing so hard for a long term, legally binding fund structure rather than annual funding processes.
