Oop, time for another base to join the family. This time, it's a cavern one I built in the Aether.
A picture of my latest base in Terraria. This one sits in an underground biome known as The Aether. The Aether generates as half-dome cavern room, with a smaller half-dome pool of liquid beneath it. The liquid is a pearlescent and lavender substance known as The Shimmer. Being near this biome causes the background to be rendered with a dark, starry, twinkly background, as if one was in space. In addition, the stone surfaces of this particular generation of it have been overrun with Xenon Moss (which glows in the dark with a brilliant sky blue).

Situated above the cavern's bottom surface is my base. It's broadly a structure built with a golden set of blocks, and colorful interior walls, spread into two wings. In addition, there's above it, there's an extra set of special bedrooms built with more off-white materials, that sit beneath an off-center ice cavern.

The left wing of the base follows the general motif of the central area. It contains various elements, such as a bedroom, a display area, a special crafting station, some storage, and a miniature library. The left-most wall is mostly diagonal, with a window its center. This window looks into a large room with rainbow waterfalls, a white stream, and Helium Moss (a special hue-cycling moss).

The right wing somewhat breaks away from the golden and rainbow aesthetic. It opens up into a moody, yet whimsical tavern... which leads to a somewhat dingier storage area. If you follow the storage area up, and head above the tavern, you'll find some living spaces, decorated in with materials and furniture that invoke space and the night sky.

The center of the base contains the town's pylon, in front of some stained glass, and sits above the Aether's Shimmer pool. There is a rope that leads down to a floating platform, with the rope flanked by rainbows that sort of 'bleed' from the base itself. The base is also supported by two pillars, flanked by 6 gem trees in a rainbow formation.

And a more zoomed in picture of the jungle base too.
The previous image in the thread, of the jungle base, except this one is cropped more, so that it just focuses on the base, rather than the cave fishing hole, or chasm.

Virtual Scallop @virtualscallop.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
I also made my jungle base after that and Holy Shit That Went So Much Quicker. I didn't want the scale of the prior bases, especially the desert one. With that in mind, I think it turned out fairly alright. It's certainly the most fishing hole of any of the bases so far.
A Terraria base that lies in the jungle biome.

It's primarily made of mahongy wood, with some other materials sprinkled in like bamboo. It lies on small stilts above the terrain.

Kind of like the desert base, this one is also somewhat bisected into two parts.

The larger part on the left is the busier of the two, as it features actual living spaces, such as a bedroom and kitchen. The smaller part on the right is mostly just a couple stories that house baskets and vases.

Connecting the two parts is an interior bridge that houses the pylon. It has trap doors in the floor that drop into an artificial giant hive, with a honey pond inside. Similarly, beneath the left building, is a ladder and platforms down into a fishing hole that lies in a sort of cave.

On both sides of the base, there are rooms that connect to the outside world, as they drop down into the outside space, with ropes. With the right-side one, it drops into a massive chasm, with a pier to greet the rope from the rightmost terrain.

Virtual Scallop @virtualscallop.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
I've got a base going in the desert now too. I think I went overboard on the scale with this one. At least compared to what it's housing. It feels kinda rough to me, and maybe I'll get around to tweaking it at some point, but for now... I'm so tired of building it.
A picture of a Terraria base that resides in the desert. The base is a multi-story complex, more or less split into two buildings, with a transitional space between them. Both are primarily made of marble, and similarly 'fancy' materials like glass, dynasty wood, office blocks, etc.

The building to the left is smaller, and houses a lot of critters in terrariums and jars. Also clumps of paintings.

The second building is fairly tall and wide, and is it itself home to multiple areas. The ground area features reception counters, sunflowers, a tree, and a fountain.

Above the prior segment on the left side, is an herb farm, which towers upward. It's an open space featuring rows of different planter boxes, with matching colored glass and torches.

To the right of that segment is an elevator shaft and stairwell... further right of that is a bunch of hallways and offices... with a little leisurely roof space.

All the way to the right is two things: On the ground, is an oasis, with a marble pier extending from the building over it... Above it, is a floating island with some extra desert on it.

How it feels to be 12 years late to the Awful Hospital party
Fern (a woman with a stylized green look) holding a cup, having a mind blowing experience (in a good way) in which she wasn't prepared for... with the background in mind, it amounts to a reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey.Cheryl (a woman in a somewhat put together red outfit) lying sprawled out on the floor in a way that's reminiscent of the dead Sonic meme from The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. She lies in an empty wide void.

This screencap edits out the ~Z above her head.

Some other images too, featuring the underground, and a broader view of the place... with one at night.
This image showcases the underground beneath the Living Tree base. The overhauled roots are shown in full, with a room in the middle...

Off to the side, and beneath the pond, there's a set of rooms that sort of branch off into a sort of tavern and cellar vibe.

Further down in the underground, you get more general platforms, ponds, and the like... with an underground graveyard overlooking its own pond. This image is more or less a view of the topside, and the underground, as shown in the prior images... although some of the less important underground is cut off in this image. It's the same as the last image, but now it's night... with much of the surface now blanketed in darkness... however, the base itself is still fairly lit, speckled in many lights.

Been trying to get the swing of Terraria again, and seeing if I can actually finish an Expert run nowadays. I think I've made satisfactory progress on my first base. There's still things that can be touched up, but I think this is it for now. I want to actually mine and fight a boss lol.
An zoomed out image of my Terraria base.

The main point here is that I've converted two Living Trees into my place of residence... string up platforms between them, making rooms in the canopies, and putting treehouses on their tops and sides.

There's other features to note too. Over to the left, off the ground, there's a giant cloud that functions as an arena. Over to the right, there's some piers over a small pond.

The roots of the trees have also been revamped, but aren't shown a ton in this image.

I've also disliked the smirk on that first render for an additional reason: It just doesn't look right to me, in certain contexts... The curves on the ends of his mouth read to me less like the ends of his smile... but moreso a continuation of that smile... like he has an awkward, pained expression
The Sonic 4 render, but completely desaturated. A hot pink markup portrays what the mouth is supposed to be perceived as. The word "ACTUAL" is printed below his face. The same prior desaturated render. However, now the hot pink line is more curved and exaggerated. At this point, it's no longer a smile. The word "PERCEIVED" is printed below his face.

As much as I got into Sonic with Generations... and as much as I love a good 3D model... I gotta say, I think the 3D key art for Sonic during the 2010s is some of the worst high profile key art I've ever seen. It always looks so awkward and dead. There's a zombie-like hollowness to it.
A render of Sonic for Sonic 4: Episode 1. It's that one promo piece used on everything, with his little awkward smirk... upwards pointed finger... hand awkwardly resting on his hip...A render of Amy for Sonic Runners. She may have a big smile, but there's no life behind it. She looks head empty in a corporate way.A render of Vector for Sonic Runners. I'm not sure what they're trying to convey with this render... confidence? Ruggedness? Regardless, he's blankly staring at the camera with an open mouth, and a hand awkwardly partially placed on his belly.A render of Classic Sonic for Sonic Generations. He's in the pose he uses for the covers of Sonic 1. There's something uncanny about the rotundness of his body, and it's lit.

I've been getting into the Mega Man series in recent years... and some of my favorite games include games like Mega Man 4. I don't love Mega Man 4 because it redefined what it means to be a Mega Man with a bold new take... I love Mega Man 4 because it's a really polished take on Mega Man.
A Mega Man tier chart I've been keeping over the past few years. The Y axis is defined by rankings, starting at the bottom with E, and peaking at S... The X axis is defined by years, and entries within those years.

Furthermore, different lines and colors are dedicated to different sub-series... which include: The classic saga, the X saga, the World (Game Boy) saga, the Legends saga, the DOS duo, and Mega Man Soccer.

Currently, the chart goes from 1987 to 2000. While nothing has managed to hit S tier yet, there's still entries hitting some good spots at high B tier, and A tier amongst the later classic saga, X2, X4, Legends 1, and Tron Bonne.
