I'm a compulsive note-taker (even in situations where I will literally never look at the note again), but most of them are chaotic chicken scribble. Fun to try to make them aesthetically engaging while I absorbed content. I will try this again! Thanks to Mike and Lucy for a lovely and edifying time!

In addition to stimulating a lot of laughs, heartfelt conversation, and some new musings about my creative community (heist time!), it also provided an opportunity to try doing a "sketchnote" to collect my thoughts.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN you've had this on your main hard drive for months to figure out how to edit but you've decided you're just going to post it straight from the camera because it's too precious to modify??? 🪶 🐣

It's not often you can pinpoint real, positive change a journalist has caused. But as Turkmeni sources state, @dpcarrington.bsky.social's persistent and probing coverage of this issue has been critical to a change of policy, with massive implications. Big congrats www.theguardian.com/environment/...

I have had a tendency over the past 15 years to disappear from the wider Internet for long periods and then emerge, cicada-like, and yell about whatever I've been doing. Frankly had the same thought (how have I not come across this person!) when Patreon told me you and your work existed! <3 Yay bug

Also check out this hickory horned devil we found during a prescribed burn the other day. One of North America's largest caterpillars! And apparently completely harmless (I did not test this). #caterpillar #bugs #hellyeah

You meet a traveler coming the opposite way along the snow-packed road. You're not sure if he wants to sell you something, or add you to his merchandise. - I made a birdbeast! An unsettling bipedal vulture creature with white feathers stands on the snow against a dark blue background and wearing a large, heavy pack that seems to hold various items of organic origin.

I am also a scientist and habitat manager - using prescribed fire, chainsaws, public education, and lots of other tools to create and protect habitat for Virginian ecosystems. I write and draw stuff about that, too. www.patreon.com/virginiagree...

My favorite birdy project is my ever-growing collection of illustrated stories and songs about birds in a fantasy version of the Shenandoah Valley (but based loosely on real bird biology!) called The Ballads of Remex. www.patreon.com/virginiagree...

I've used my bird-drawing powers for: - Making up Birdbeasts in 2014 - Being the Bartels Science Illustrator at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in 2017 - Working on a graphic novel called Winged Heroes about birds in NYC in 2018 (published in 2021) - Doing lots of art for nature and conservation!

Hi, I'm Virginia! I draw birds. I write stories (about birds). I make comics (featuring birds and/or my own life). I compose little songs and poetry (frequently about birds).
