You are treating it like content churned out for amusement, not like a community activity, and that might be why you don't understand the frustration that long-term tumblr users are experiencing--because that's also what Tumblr is doing! It's making aggregation more powerful than creation.

i just realized you and i think of reblogging as serving different functions. *You* think of it as a way to make your own post and therefore to get YOUR due credit. *I* think of it as a way to boost OP or to participate in a convo--as do most long-time tumblr users, hence the complaints.

See, here's the issue though. The reblog chains are going to be damaged by the fact that OP etc will no longer be able to SEE what's happening in the reblog chains. Those are part of a conversation, not just someone posting and leaving it for the algorithm or whatever.

That's just it though. Tumblr is not like other social media, and dedicated Tumblr users don't want it to *be* like other social media--if they did, they would use other social media and not Tumblr. It's a remnant from the older internet, LiveJournal and so on, a blogging site with social features.

Basically: Tumblr is trying to turn itself into Twitter to attract people from Twitter. You clearly like how Twitter/bsky/etc are set up and that's fine! But Tumblr is not Twitter, and it will not attract new users. It *will* make long-time users no longer interested in being on Tumblr.
