10 new listings today. Games and CDs I haven't had on the site before. And here is the deal, if you buy them, you will own them. Not a license, or a code, or a subscription, an actual physical thing to hold in your hand. (LOL, I fear I might sound a little bitter) Site: japanretrodirect.ocnk.com

Reading the manual in the car on the way back from the store... There are few better experiences in this life.

Something is being lost. Swapping games with friends. The ability to sell (and get back some of your money) if you fell for the hype of Shaq-Fu. Passing a game on to a younger cousin. Owning the things that make me happy. I knew it was coming but I am still very sad. (3/3)

But we played TONS of games. I had richer friends to borrow games from. Also there was a grocery store that rented games (2 nights for $2) that we would sometimes get as a treat on the weekends. And I saved money to buy used former-rental games (2 for $15!) (2/3)

When I was a kid, we didn't have a ton of money. My brother and I wanted an NES soooooo bad. We made deal with our parents to combine all our birthday and Christmas presents for the year and we got an NES Action Set to share. We only had the pack in Mario/Duck Hunt. (1/3)

Still experimenting with putting these posts up at different times. Is this a good time for Europeans? Anyway, N64 restocks today. Must have games like Star Fox, Zelda, Mario Kart 64 and Personal favorites of mine Yuke-Yuke!! Trouble Makers and Snowboard Kids. Site: japanretrodirect.ocnk.com

I freaking love this series. Even the lackluster (though beautiful) PC-FX one. I wish Konami would remember they own this series and do something with it. Seems they only bought Hudson for Bomberman and Momotaro.

Vinnk @vinnk.bsky.social · 22/06/2026

Because the characters are so strong I feel they transition well to whatever game. Hanagumi Columns is one of my favorite puzzle games and the story is so cute. I wish the series would have a comeback…

I loved the first game. I need to track down the 2nd. It’s gotten a bit expensive. Love the DS one too even though it’s a mystery dungeon.

Why can’t they make cover art like this anymore? Cowards.

I already asked this question a few months back, but since I got such great responses and discovered a few new artists (who I now love) I will ask it again. "Who are your favorite Japanese artists?" Or just recommend me an album.

Tokyo is great and all but there is a certain something about living in a small town.

Oita is really in the boonies but it’s also really beautiful. I hope you enjoyed it.

But what are we gonna do unless they are?

Since I moved to Japan 20+ years ago I don’t listen to a lot of new American music. I’m super out of the loop. But when a new They Might Be Giants album hits, I’m going to be all over that. @tmbg.bsky.social

Every item listed today (other than that Morning Musume CD)is new to the site. I can't believe I never had Chono Cross or Utada's Hatsukoi on here before. Pop'n TwinBee is a great shooter, Rockman World 4 is a classic and that Anri CD is a great buy for City Pop fans. Site: japanretrodirect.ocnk.com

I totally agree. But when I list stuff like this no one buys it. I fear there are more collectors than players.

I did not realize the telephone card that came with first editions of Dragon’s Crown was such high culture.

Got my Switch Virtual Boy …thing. Might make an unboxing video or something later. Still not 100% sure why I ordered this. I already have a Virtual Boy and most of the games on this service.

It’s nice to see that even in this day and age Nintendo continues its roots as a playing card company.

Family Karaoke day. This place doesn’t have They Might Be Giants songs 😭(the other place had 3). So my daughter and I settled on Journey.

I’m never sure what to do with things like this. This cartridge works. It has the game Pinball on it. But because it doesn’t have its label no one wants it. So I’ve just been holding on to it (and many others like it) I just can’t bring myself to throw it away. It feels almost sacrilegious to do so.

Yeah, I never throw that stuff away. I always include it. Those are treasures.

I love finding handwritten notes in games. Someone put more work into this virtual fighter move list than pretty much any project I’ve ever done in my life.
