God, I need to watch this badly. The only Elaine May film I haven’t seen. (If I had a hypothetical S&S ballot, I would have A New Leaf no hesitation.)

I got to talk to Matt Johnson in a screening I’m legally not allowed to talk about. Great dude.

Is the festival showing Sandra Wollner’s Everytime? It has the same cinematography from Aftersun.

for films like La Gradiva and Everytime, is the “moderate possibility” partly attributed to them not coming from big name directors despite their general acclaim?

I have a 2 a.m. 70mm IMAX screening of The Odyssey sometime in August. Considering how nightmarish it was getting tickets to The Odyssey, the same might happen with Dune: Part Three.

I finally got to see The Odyssey, and yeah, it’s a tremendously paced film. Did the sort of flash cutting style bother you, though?

𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝟮𝗸 / 𝗷𝗼𝘀𝗵𝘂𝗮 𝗹𝗲𝗲 @vince2k.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

(The one time I read the source material right before a film adaptation was Train Dreams. I liked that movie a decent amount, but it does the novella an injustice.)

𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝟮𝗸 / 𝗷𝗼𝘀𝗵𝘂𝗮 𝗹𝗲𝗲 @vince2k.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

I can’t even remember if I’ve read The Odyssey -- not even in school, if you want to know how cooked the American education system is -- though I have a vague grasp of certain things. Judging from your comment, I suppose that won’t bother me too much then.

Out of curiosity, how “faithful” of an adaptation is it? (Or is that just a pointless question because of the book’s nature?)

Film at Lincoln Center will play The Piano later this month, and that’s going to feel extra melancholic. Weirdly, I reacted similarly with the David Lynch news, where I stopped worrying if he was okay once I heard that he escaped the L.A. fires. And then... yeah.

i remember reading that he was cancer-free, also. i kind of stopped thinking about his mortality after that, so i was genuinely shocked to see that post.

Reed is such a weird case b/c he’s both terrible and simultaneously important to the Rockets not looking even worse on offense.

I have no idea how accurate this is -- my screening of Barry Lyndon or The Godfather Pt. II didn’t have an intermission -- but Kung Pow: Enter the Fist is 81 minutes long.

010

A barely 2 hour long movie having an intermission is crazy. I remember my screening(s) for 2001: A Space Odyssey had an intermission, and that felt really bizarre.

then again, maybe Saltburn is intentionally critical of the middle class. i imagine class differences in the UK are somewhat different to class differences in America.

000

𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝟮𝗸 / 𝗷𝗼𝘀𝗵𝘂𝗮 𝗹𝗲𝗲 @vince2k.bsky.social · 14/02/2026

this is kinda unrelated, but after watching Wuthering Heights, i thought about Saltburn again. all her movies low-key give off “rich person” perspective, like Sofia but without the self-awareness.
