Jesus was “weak on crime” too. It’s called mercy—something Donald Trump will need a lot of once he’s out of office.

Bombing a school and killing 100+ children is no hindrance to the NYT's Nicholas Kristof relaying the idea of an "operational success." Even though Kristof nods to their fate, their deaths are not ascribed to any particular cause, much less US bombers, but are dissolved into a generic "oppression."

By invoking God’s name in the promotion of violence and unlawful aggression, and in the midst of Christianity’s Holy Week, Trump has shown himself once again to be a serial blasphemer. There is nothing Christian about Trump’s pseudo-theology of war.

Bloomberg putting a brave face on the Strait of Hormuz transit data. Yes, weekly transits have “reached their highest since the war began”—but still just a trickle compared to the pre-war baseline.

Tomahawk depletion: “The most recent versions of the missile can cost as much as $3.6 million a piece and require up to two years to build, according to Navy documents. In recent years, they have been purchased in small batches, with just 57 included in last year’s defense budget.” (WaPo)

Nobel Peace Prize committee member Asle Toje allegedly met with Steve Bannon in 2018. A further meeting was planned with Bannon, Toje, and then-deputy leader of Norway’s right-wing Progress Party Sylvi Listhaug. Possible MAGA ties raise questions about the Nobel Peace Prize committee’s credibility.

This both-sidesing piece by Bishop Robert Barron purports to be balanced but is deeply MAGA-coded: protest becomes "demonizing"; Barron "strongly defends our nation’s right to maintain the border." In a social crisis created by fascists, unequivocally siding with the oppressed is the bare minimum.

Truman vs. Trump:
“When President Harry Truman left office in 1953, he did not even own a car. He and his wife returned to Missouri by train and lived for a time on his Army pension. He refused to take any job that he regarded as commercializing his public service, explaining, "I knew that they were not interested in hiring Harry Truman, the person, but what they wanted to hire was the former president of the United States." Mr. Trump has said that when he leaves office, he plans to take with him a $400 million Boeing 747 that was a gift from Qatar, and to display it at his presidential library.”

DHS’s Kristi Noem behind the slogan: “ONE OF OURS, ALL OF YOURS.” This extreme, us-vs.-them phrase sets the stage for state violence and collective punishment (but for what crime?) and is terrifying when wielded by an official representative of a government entity with a $100 billion budget.

Yes, I would never suggest they’re naive. And Mamdani handled himself well. But, Trump’s predictable playbook—act charming toward those you can’t defeat—carries real risks to politicians who have built a significant part of their momentum on opposition to Trumpism (in addition to affordability).

As the UK Labour Party tacks rightward, is it any wonder that the Greens are rocketing ahead in the polls? On migration, the difference between them is palpable: while Labour boasts of 50,000 “returns,” the Greens want to treat “all new migrants as potential citizens” who can “feel at home here.”

I think we are likely to see the direst effects under conditions of hegemonic power à la Trump 2.0, with multiple major economies coalescing around RPPs across the continent. But yes, there are RPPs in positions of authority today. Few would count UK and Germany, but certainly Meloni's Italy.

Another case of extrajudicial killings in international waters by the Trump administration. So far, no public evidence that the victims were drug traffickers has been presented. And even if they were, murdering them clearly isn’t an acceptable state response. More: edition.cnn.com/2025/09/15/p...

Spain’s far-right Vox party is polling at around 17%, but its most significant voting intention gains are among young voters. We need to study and scrutinize the digital ecosystems driving younger voters’ support for the far right across Europe.

Democrats’ perception of “big business” is tanking, per Gallup. Fertile ground for Zohran Mamdani-style democratic socialism.
“Sixty percent of Republicans, 36% of independents and 17% of Democrats rate big business positively, with the latter two figures being new lows for those groups. Compared with four years ago, Democrats’ rating has fallen the most (down 17 points), while independents’ rating is 10 points lower and Republicans’ is essentially the same. However, Republicans’ positive rating has dropped from 78% in 2019, mirroring the trend in their confidence in big business.”
