Update my CD project post with the latest three albums I've added -- the unlikely trio of Tarja (ex-Nightwish), Beethoven (his Missa Solemnis) and Bob Marley and the Wailers. lilith.cc/~victor/dagboek/wp-admin/…

The Leidse Rijn this morning (#Utrecht, #Netherlands).
The narrow Leidsche Rijn waterway in the morning, slight mist above it, the rising sun in the distance behind some trees, small clouds and airplane trails in the sky.

Gas prices in the USA are apparently high enough to doom the Republican party. My friends, gas costs $4,32 a gallon in the US. That's €0,99 a liter. In the Netherlands, gas now costs €2,72 a liter. That's $11,88 a gallon. I haven't tanked gas as cheap as it's in the USA today for as long as I […]

I wasn't really listening to music any more. I mean, I listened, but not with attention. Not sitting down with an album. Not discovering much new music either. So I started a project where I emulate building up a CD collection from scratch, one record at a time. I currently 'own' seven albums […]

One of the things I put on my birthday wish list was "a cd you think I should listen to." A friend gave me Berlin by Lou Reed. Wow. This is bleak. And great.

I'm not saying that Paracelsus is a bad nickname, but who needs a nickname if he's called Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim? (Alas, the claim that the word 'bombastic' comes from his name seems to be false.)

This seems a singularly unappealing proposal?
Paper taped to a wooden wall. It shows a yellow bus/coach against the Alps, with, in German, the text "overland coach trip to India", also giving a partial list of countries you'll be passing through, which includes Iran and Pakistan.

It's hard to overstate how much better OpenStreetMap is than Google Maps, especially when it comes to walking/hiking. It's the difference between the unusable and the nearly perfect. (Showing Google Maps app and Organic Maps app.)
Google Maps just east of the Grand Ballon. Mostly just green, a few roads or paths, you can't see the difference, often going seemingly nowhere.OpenStreetMap in Organic Maps, just east of the Grand Ballon. Many paths, clear altitude lines, names of cols and tops, perfect for planning a hike.
