Fantastic to start to hear from lawyers working with #PFAS affected communities in Belgium, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, France as well as Robert Billot who took on DuPont in US and started anti PFAS litigation

2 powerful documentaries on #PFAS showing now, looking at 3Ms toxic legacy in firefighting foams, in Australia and France (and around the world), as well as other PFAS, in other products, by other companies, and how communities are confronting this

‪ Time for politicians to recognise that the chemicals industry needs to not only decarbonise (and properly, not with fake climate solutions such as hydrogen and CCS) but also to detoxify - to really stop producing harmful substances. Hope to hear MEPs picking this up in the ENVI debate
Cartoon depicting two red buttons and a finger about to press one of them. The title reads: Corporations right now... and the left button says: business as usual carry on contaminating. The right button says: make products that put people and the planet first! The finger is about to press the left button. Cartoon by @CartoonRalph

Check out EEB's important work in critiquing chemicals industry's lobbying and how they risk weakening existing protections, let alone strengthening rules aimed at tackling harmful chemicals. See thread below ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Interesting study. We found poor levels of transparency among many PermReps when we investigated lobbying on #PFAS #ForeverChemicals in our #ChemicalReaction report. corporateeurope.org/en/chemical-...

#Huawei now suspended from the EU lobby register. On #LobbyFacts you can analyse its full, self-declared EU lobby register history: www.lobbyfacts.eu/datacard/hua... @lobbyctrl-tech.bsky.social @lobbycontrol.bsky.social

The #PFAS restriction mustn’t be hijacked by industry. But to deliver a comprehensive ban, we will need a new approach to PFAS decision-making. The Commission needs to stop the #ForeverLobbying & deliver a #ToxicFreeFuture. Read the report & take action corporateeurope.org/en/chemical-...

Three circles. A green one to the left says: It’s time to reclaim regulation and to prioritise sustainability and justice over corporate profits
A blue circle at the centre says: It’s time to ban ‘forever chemicals’ PFAS and use safer alternatives instead.
An orange circle at the right says: It’s time to protect PFAS decision-making; the Commission needs to stop meeting with the PFAS lobby industry.

The #PFAS pollution tap needs turning off. As the #ForeverLobbying Project shows, the costs of #ForeverPollution environmental clean-up could run into the trillions, even if the technology existed (which it doesn’t). foreverpollution.eu/lobbying

Below written in white against a black background we read: The PFAS pollution crisis
The image has 5 blue circles, each with the following text:
    1. PFAS pollution found in animals, air, waters, soil, plants
    2. Annual European health-related costs for exposure to PFAS estimate €52-84 billion
    3. 23,000+ contaminated sites across Europe
    4. Human health impacts likely to include liver damage, decreased fertility, and cancer
    5. Annual European environmental PFAS clean-up costs estimate €100+ billion

Our survey of 15 Commission DGs on #PFAS lobbying showed it is: ⚠️ Relying on inadequate transparency tools ⚠️ Not monitoring even for ‘balance’ in meetings ⚠️ Unaware of risks of corporate lobbying ⚠️ No rules in place to specifically protect PFAS file corporateeurope.org/en/chemical-...

Below written in white against a black background we read: Next steps for the European Commission on PFAS
Several green circles say: Immediate halt to all private Commission lobby meetings on the uPFAS restriction with those industry voices demanding exemptions and derogations; No pre-empting the work of ECHA on uPFAS; Public recognition that it is vital to protect the public interest from corporate capture in uPFAS restriction; Better rule book; Much improved implementation of EU access to documents rules; Review of use of industry-sourced studies and data in chemicals policy-making, and boosting the sourcing of independent science; Scale up Commission work on the substitution of harmful substances with safer alternatives.

We also look in-depth at the role of the Commission, only an observer at this stage of #PFAS process, but: 🇪🇺 Actively meeting with industry lobbyists 🇪🇺 Offering them advice & support 🇪🇺 Sending encouraging messages to industry 🇪🇺 Talking-up a weaker ban? corporateeurope.org/en/chemical-...

It’s been a year in the making & is based on analysis of 600 documents. Today @corporateeurope is launching the report 'Chemical reaction' which exposes the intense lobby efforts of the #PFAS industry to keep forever polluting. #ForeverLobbying corporateeurope.org/en/chemical-...

The word “Report” is highlighted and then followed by the bigger words: “Chemical reaction”, followed by the subtitle, in smaller font: “Inside the corporate fight against the EU’s PFAS restriction”.
At the right of the words is an infinity mathematical sign, an Erlenmeyer flask and the representation of PFAS molecules. The background of the image is green.
