I have never been more insulted by a quiz. This must be how the Mandaeans feel when someone calls them heterodox Christians. Motherfucker, I predate your cult and developed my insane positions in parallel.
Heterodox Rationalists homo Bayesians

Read the same Sequences and came out at 15 percent instead of 95. Run a killer comment section and will steelman your position until you no longer recognize it. The heterodox wing (Robin Hanson, Joscha Bach) skips both doom and cheerleading for stranger predictions, like brain emulations and grabby aliens, then asks exactly where your model disagrees.Habitat

Panel 1: Are you with the cult?
Panel 2, word vomit overflows panel: WE'RE AN AI SAFETY ORGANISATION/LARGE AND TOTALLY NOT ABUSIVE POLYCULE WITH (CONSENSUAL) RAPE PARTIES AS OUR MAIN NETWORKING EVENT. HAVE YOU READ THE SEQUENCES ALREADY? PLEASE COME TO OUR COMPOUND SO YOU CAN READ THE LEATHER BOUND EDITION OF THE PHYG MATERIAL USED TO INDOCTRINATE ME AS A HIGH SCHOOLER. YOU SHOULD JOIN US! WE'RE ALL VULNERABLE SOCIAL OUTCASTS JUST LIKE YOU, WE'RE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN SAVE THE WORLD (BY MAKING A LOT OF FRONTS BECAUSE OUR ENEMIES WOULD TRY TO STOP US), AND WE'RE ALL INCREDIBLY FRIENDLY AND OPEN. Nonsense. I've been out of academia for a bit, but it's easy to make an affirmative defense. 1. The Sonderweg thesis has been dispatched, leading to better comparative analysis of 19th century states. 2. Moderate functionalism has proven useful in explaining the Holocaust.
Tyler Austin Harper @Tyler_A _Harper 2h Increasingly, academics-particularly humanists-remind me of addicts who refuse to admit they have a problem: they've lost their spouse and kids, no one trusts them anymore, but they think everything would be fine if people just stopped spreading rumors about their bad behavior.

I've said this before, but it's crazy that the average academic in the humanities seems to believe that the public hates them and higher ed because of right-wing conspiracies, that they've done nothing wrong and don't need to change, and the public owes them trust for..reasons? 9:06 AM- Jul 16, 2026- 21.5K Views

Tyler Austin Harper @Tyler_A Harper 1h This is why they spend all their time not defending the humanities or their fields on the substance-making an affirmative case as to their value--but rather casting aspersions on the motives of their critics, and engaging in meta-debates about the politics of their detractors.

Isn't Mamdani literally making a personal responsibility argument? Individual actors should make the correct decision themselves, without the government forcing them. I know I know fascists and Quislings don't care about hypocrisy, etc. etc.

Favourite version is this, because it's true. Adorno connects slamming car doors to Fascism in aphorism 19: Do not knock.
Reverend Lovejoy holding Adorno's Minimia Moralia. Under it, a Tumblr user, claeswar, with the quote "Marge everything is corrupted by capital. Have you ever sat down and read this thing? Technically the way we close a door is fascist."Do not knock. – Technification is making gestures in the meantime precise and rough – and thereby human beings. They drive all hesitation out of gestures, all consideration, all propriety [Gesittung]. They are subjected to the irreconcilable – ahistorical, as it were – requirements of things. Thus one no longer learns to close a door softly, discreetly and yet firmly. Those of autos and frigidaires have to be slammed, others have the tendency to snap back by themselves and thus imposing on those who enter the incivility of not looking behind them, of not protecting the interior of the house which receives them. One cannot account for the newest human types without an understanding of the things in the environs which they continually encounter, all the way into their most secret innervations. What does it mean for the subject, that there are no window shutters anymore, which can be opened, but only frames to be brusquely shoved, no gentle latches but only handles to be turned, no front lawn, no barrier against the street, no wall around the garden? And which auto-driver has not felt the temptation, in the power of the motor, to run over the vermin of the street – passersby, children, bicyclists? In the movements which machines demand from their operators, lies already that which is violent, crashing, propulsively unceasing in Fascist mistreatment. Not the least fault for the dying out of experience is due to the fact that things assume a form under the law of their purposiveness which restrict their interaction to mere application, without the surplus – were it that of freedom of behavior, were it that of the autonomy of the thing – which might survive as the kernel of experience, because it is not consumed by the moment of action.

Reasons for behaviour:

✔️ The media convinced me their work was unreadable.
✔️ I only looked at analytic philosophy
⬜ I was jealous of Gender Studies' joie de vivre
⬜ I don't know shit about critical theory.
⬜ My agenda blinded me.

I am sorry for my behaviour and I will hereby respect Judith Butler.

It was amazing to go to Belfast, which does not yet have 5G, and feel the earth, sky, air, human experience, feel the way it did in the 1970s. Calm, still, peaceful, restful, natural.Well hundreds of women on this page say they are having bleeding/ clotting after vaccination or that they bleed oddly being AROUND vaccinated women. Unconfirmed needs more investigation. But lots of reports. COVID-19 vaccine side effects.

To my knowledge, Logics of History has only one edition, published in 2005. (No other is listed on Sewell's CV.) The final, still incorrect quote ('is' should be 'was') is still misattributed. It is actually in the section 'The Political Unconscious of Social and Cultural history'.

Actually, elected officials have an obligation to risk their lives to defend democracy. Sorry man, but being elected gives someone more responsibility, not less.
The "Do Something Now" crowd wants politicians to take a bullet for them, while they cower on social media. They will demand others to throw their lives away to perfect democracy, but they won't.

Me: Carnists always complain that vegan activism isn't effective enough. Vegans should spread lone star ticks. Nature: We got it covered.
We’ve seen an explosive increase in these ticks, which is a concern. I imagine alpha-gal will soon include the entire range of the tick, which could become the entire eastern half of the US as there’s not much to stop them. It seems like an oddity now but we could end up with millions of people with an allergy to meat

My favourite is his interview with Emily Ratajkowski where he just seems utterly baffled that she is hot and is also capable of thought.
Thomas Chatterton Williams' interview with Emily Ratajkowski from https://archive.is/20211108170519/https://www.marieclaire.fr/emily-ratajkowski-peut-on-etre-feministe-et-n-exister-que-par-son-corps,1276946.asp translated from French through Google Translate

We then move on to her youth.
wanted to know when she realized she was "special":
"When did people start paying special attention to you?"
should add that while she's articulating a perfectly intelligent thought, she's wearing an extraordinarily low- cut neckline without a bra, all the while seeming to know, deep down, that her outfit is both absurd and confusing, if not downright contradictory to her message. She smiles and asks, "What kind of attention?" "To your appearance, say,
impressed by her level of tolerance for cognitive dissonance. "I don't know, I first felt very special because of my mind, but don't know about my

If you've never read anything by Yarvin, it's hard to really explain how profoundly, immensely, incomprehensibly stupid the man is. And what that says about the average idiot who cites him as an influence. Doesn't mean his disciples won't kill millions of people. Hitler was an idiot, too.
Out in the wilderness, Yarvin delved into recondite history and economics texts, many of them newly accessible through Google Books. He read Thomas Carlyle, James Burnham, and Albert Jay Nock, alongside an carly-aughts profusion of political blogs. Yarvin traces his own red-pill moment to the Presidential election of 2004. As many of his peers were being driven to the left by lies about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, Yarvin was pulled in the opposite direction by fabrications of a different sort: the Swift Boat conspiracy theory pushed by veterans allied with the George W. Bush campaign, who claimed that the Democratic candidate, John Kerry, had lied about his service in Vietnam. It seemed obvious to Yarvin, who believed the accusations, that once the truth emerged Kerry would be forced to drop out of the race. When that didn't happen, he began to question what else hed naively taken on trust. Facts no longer felt stable. How could he be confident in what he'd been told about Joseph McCarthy, the Civil War, or global warming? What about democracy itself? After years of energetic debates in the comments sections of other people's blogs, he decided to start his own. It did not lack for ambition. The first post began, "The other day I was tinkering around in my garage and I decided to build a new ideology."

I think the comment about nice people never going Nazi is wrong. Nice isn't good. And the character sketches of those who never go Nazi seem a bit too elitist for my taste. My never Nazis are all socialists. But I have certainly met Messrs. J, G, C, and B and perhaps a Ms. E.
It's fun-a macabre sort of fun-this parlor game of "Who Goes Nazi?" And it simplifies things-asking the question in regard to specific personalities.
Kind, good, happy, gentlemanly, secure people never go Nazi. They may be the gentle philosopher whose name is in the Blue Book, or Bill from City College to whom democracy gave a chance to design airplanes-you'll never make Nazis out of them. But the frustrated and humiliated intellectual, che rich and scared speculator, the spoiled son, the labor tyrant, the fellow who has achieved success by smelling out the wind of success-they would all go Nazi in a criSIS.
Believe me, nice people dont go Nazi. Their race, color, creed, or social condition is not the criterion. It is something in them. Those who haven't anything in them to tell them what they like and what they don'- whether it is breeding, or happiness, or wisdom, or a code, however old-fashioned or however modern, go Nazi. It's an amusing game. Try it at the next big arty you go to.

Agreed. I'm annoyed when people don't talk about how much of an idiot Yarvin is. E.g. Look at this.
Yarvin's idiotic babbling follows:

The first thing we notice about Rawls is the title of his famous book, A Theory of Justice. As I've mentioned before, this is not just hubristic, but actively Orwellian. For about the last 2500 years, the word justice and its various Indo-European predecessors have meant "the accurate execution of the law:" Raws is no more interested in law than I am in dressage, and when he redefines the word justice to mean, effectively, righteousness, one notes with some dismay that he is confiscating a noun with no existing synonyms. But perhaps this was the publisher's decision-maybe A Theory of Righteousness just wouldn't have moved as well.

Reposting with alt-text. Also surprise Borgerhoff Mulder appearance. She turns up in the most shocking places.
Cows and goats
SIR– While Andrew Hill (Nature 315, 222; 1985) shows deep understanding of the evolution of early African Hominoidea, his knowledge of Kalenjin nomenclature appears limited.
John Kimengich is surely John Kimngetich, which in Kalenjin means "born between 10 and 11 a.m. when the cows leave the cattle enclosure".
I am sure Dr Hill appreciates how in Kalenjin, as in English, omitting certain letters, for example the from hominoid, can dramatically alter the sense.
Monique Borgerhoff Mulder

SIR-Your correspondent Monique Mul- der (Nature 20 June, p.626), claiming some knowledge of the Kalenjin languages, suggests I misspelt the name of my colleague John Kimengich, as the spelling deviates from her bovine concept of its etymology. This is something over which we could argue until the cows come home, but in general I make it a rule to spell people's names in accordance with their own practice and not to worry unduly over conjectured derivation and meaning. As your correspondent would have us believe that one of her names is "Borgerhoff", I commend this principle to her as one she would be well advised to encourage.

It's literally the Matt Bors 'You made me become a Nazi' comic. Wild.
Four panel comic. Clockwise. 1st panel. Woman: 'My Gawd these trump people are racist.' Man in MAGA hat: 'That attitude is what's pushing me to be racist!' 2nd panel. Woman: 'Say what?' Man: 'Might as well! You say I'm a Nazi so, fine I'll be a Nazi if that makes you happy.' 3rd panel. Woman: 'It doesn't.' Man: 'I bought this Waffen SS uniform for Halloween. You'll cry "offensive" so maybe I'll just wear it every day.' 4th panel. Man, shaving his head to become a skinhead while getting a swastika tattooed on his left arm: 'I just hate to do this. I feel bullied. Really.'
