The Raven and the Whale Acrylic on Canvas 16" x 20" This will be a present for my wife to celebrate 22 years together. I'll probably write her a short letter on the back, and I'll decorate some paper to wrap it in.

The 22nd anniversary of when my wife and I met is coming up, and I'm working on an acrylic painting for her. I'm traying hard to make it match her overall aesthetic, and I hate that I can't show it to her yet! #workinprogress #art #artist #SciArt

Throwback Thursday! I made this in 2016, and it was my first mixed media piece. It's a combination of watercolour, ink, and pencil all rendered on stone paper! #art #artist #sciart #mixedmedia

I floated an idea on threads, and I am curious about other artists opinions. Could it be possible to form a union of artists that could lead to the arts being treated like one of the trades? #art #artists

This is a diving humpback whale I painted in acrylic on a feather last year. It was a very painstaking process because I had to paint sooo gently to not ruin the feather, but I learned a lot about control. The background is just soft pastel on paper. Stay playful!

I'm going to fold a few and then sketch them from a few angles so I can get my composition just right. Can you guess which animal I'm studying for my next origami painting? Stay playful!

Still working to get some things done, so I thought I would do a little throw back. To celebrate the roll out of being able to post multiple images, here is a whole series I did called the Greyskulls. They are a set of diptychs renders in marker on watercolour paper. #art #sciart #drawing #artist

Work in progress Wednesday! The 22nd anniversaries with my wife is coming up on July 4th, so here's the acrylic piece I'm doing for her as a present. The left will be the background for concept sketches on the right of the raven and whale #art #wip #sciart #acrylic #nature #surreal

My wife sees all of my concept sketches, so her art presents are never a surprise. This year for our anniversary I'm planning a painting that I will complete through June, attempting to keep it a secret until July. But I'm neurotic, and need someone to see my process, so here's some concept sketches

Butterfly Pheonix 18" x 24" Acrylic on canvas Another acrylic work, and something a bit different from my usual. I don't tend to paint people unless I'm trying to process through big emotions.

Orcas Jupiter | Color Pencil | 12" x 18" | 180 GSM paper A drawing I did for my wife for Christmas 2025. She loves orcas, and surrealism, and is a science nerd for Jupiter. #illistration #SciArt #art

And image of a drawing rendered in pencil showing two orcas in the foreground floating in front of the planet Jupiter. In the background there is a subtle splash of water showing in the top right and bottom left corners of the page.

Last year I did a series of re-imagined creatures of legend from around the world. One of my favourites was this little teacup version of a Ninki Nanka. From West African Folklore Ninki Nanka is said to be the most frightening spirit around the lower Gambia. But mine is just a little guy.

Image of a small creature with the head and neck of a giraffe, the body of a hippopotamus, and small dragon-like wings. The creature is sitting in a black teacup, sitting in pink liquid. There is a black teapot in the background showing that the creature is sitting in a lovely gothic tea set, all atop a grey wood table.

All this shitstorm from Evangelicals about the pastor calling for compassion just shows how the Evangelical movement is not religious, it's political. It's been an insidious disease in this country for 45 years and it needs to be treated as a political group, not a religious one.

A graphite piece I did of my partner's favourite animal for their birthday a few years ago. It's a combination of graphite powder, white chalk, and white gel pen on grey paper.

So much hard work goes into the creative process… be that in the arts or in the endeavour of humanistic psychotherapy. I examine both in my most recent blog posting. www.twiltondale.ca/blog
