Recording the tunes for the Rustival trip. I love this tape deck. The speed stability is on par with a Nakamichi Dragon, so can’t really complain with that! This makes any tape sound good with a good bias tweak! #retrotech #technics #panasonic #matsushita

I haven't done retro computing in a bit so here I have this Mesh Elite Media 166 PC! I think it was built in around 1998 according to the label (quite a late socket 7 build?) but scored it very cheap at an auction and hope to clean it up, and get it running as Windows 95 system! #retrotech

We’re out on a welcomed caravanning adventure since Monday to this upcoming Sunday. Good to get out and relax. Viktor the Volvo did well and I’ve had a lot of fun getting underwater Hi8 video with my Handycam Marine pack! Mostly to get cool shots of Skye swimming.

My first proper drive out in the Primera! It’s good! I correctly identified that I would prefer driving a classic auto to a manual, and experienced a huge boost in confidence and overall observation of the rest of my driving. I’ll be out driving all my favourite slush boxes in no time! #WeirdCarBS

A wild Renault Mégane Fidji 1.6 16V appears! Been in the previous owner's family from new in 2002! They moved on, and viewed us as the perfect place. Totally original and surviving well at 93k miles. Needs some stuff, but was £0 so that's easy to justify! Runs and drives with no rust! #WeirdCarBS

I changed the engine oil in the Primera this weekend, along with the fuel filter (I think that was due a while ago!) I also changed the windscreen wiper spindles (common P11 fault) as one of the originals was wobbly and making the wiper hit the bonnet. Much better. #WeirdCarBS

So apparently my colour match is not remotely close to the rest of the dash and instrument cluster (except for the heated rear window switch?) I need it to be more of a white, it seems! I will have to investigate how Nissan managed it. Blaupunkt still looks cool, though. #WeirdCarBS

That will do nicely! I will hopefully fix the display on the original Nissan one in the future but old faithful here that’s been in many cars comes in to save the day! I even matched the bulb covers so the light colour should be pretty close to the rest of the dash. We’ll see at night. #WeirdCarBS

I had a chat with my dad about this car because I thought it was his that he sold back in 2013 or so. We are both fairly sure this is his exact P5. This is a shame because I've always wanted that car back, as it was one of my favourite cars he had while I was a kid. Sadly I can't afford it. 😭

The lap of Japanese luxury appears! A 1998 Nissan Primera SE 2L auto! It’s done a whopping 54,000 miles, is almost entirely free of any rust, and is mechanically excellent. We think we’ve done well with this one! I’ll make a video at some point on it. #WeirdCarBS

Rover 75 CDTI aux belt is a notorious job. Luckily because I had the front end off and the ability to unbolt the engine mounts, it was a bit easier as I could lower the engine down. Not enough space for my long reach 24mm spanner otherwise! Clearance between the inner wing is genuinely mad…

Rover 75 today. A common sight for any 75 veterans. Cleaning those plenums! I even managed to do the difficult one under the servo. I need to do the “spy hole” mod to the plastics at some point. Especially because they aren’t always forgiving in all weathers! #weirdcarbs #rover75

I mean, Viktor does a good job of bringing SOME kind of vibe. (Usually one that brings down property values) BUT he is a very good, comfortable workhorse and did do a towing run of the caravan successfully. The engine and gearbox seem very healthy on this car! Not bad for 120k miles.

I've been quiet this week because it's been a mixture of sorting out, and having heartbreak due to rot. I no longer own the Fiesta after that (it went off to help fix an XR3) and the trailer tent you've not even seen yet was a mess of mouldy, rotten materials. See alt text for more. #WeirdCarBS

Viktor's radio is at least working well. I had to do a hack I haven't done in a while, which is adjust the speed from the speakers! It sounds very good. I had to do the azimuth by ear, but wasn't difficult as it was almost spot on anyway! Let's hope the rest of the car repairs this well. #weirdcarbs

I completed my dream. I finally got into resin 3D printing like everybody told me too on Twitter when I posted about the P6 flywheels. I started off easy by printing the gear for the Volvo tape deck; especially as someone already made an STL set for it. It took a few goes, but I got one working! 1/2

Volvo CR-906 tape deck mechanism with new 3D printed gear. Gear dimensions aren't yet 100% perfect but this was the first fully functional prototype.

This mechanism is potentially made by Mitsubishi, though I cannot definitely confirm this, yet.

So the new car. A 1996 Volvo 940 2.3LPT auto SE. The reason I am revealing it early is I am very annoyed with it as it cut out and wouldn't restart. Thankfully we could push it home as it was on our road. Miraculously after sitting at home for a while, it finds the courage to start again! [1/2]

What a weekend! New water pump(I hate the top seal so much!), thermostat and radiator, plus a gearbox oil flush for the mystery car (that everybody has almost certainly guessed already! 😂) Hopefully it will no longer leak coolant and extend the life of a legendary engine and gearbox. #weirdcarbs
