I like Wardogs, but some things make it insufferable. I do hope the developers take a look at their data and find creative ways to deal with some major points of frustration. Like, I shouldn't have to do supply runs every game just to create enough cash to do something else.

FYI the HUGE number of AI slop at GamesCom's opening night live is not a sign that the industry has normalized AI. It's a ploy to make you believe that. These games are all by the same 3 or 4 publishers. This is a concerted effort to make consumers accept AI.

If you want someone to point the finger at for using AI, point the finger at the tools who force it into everything they do. Point the finger at asset libraries that ALLOW genAI images. Point the finger at steam for not having more clear and robust rules for what the AI disclosure needs to have.

When you have deadlines to meet, you have to prioritize the blockers. The things that keep you from shipping your game. In indie you wear so many hats you don’t have the luxury of going over every minute detail.

Not to mention non-artist devs may not have a keen eye like artists who can spot obvious signs of AI because they know the process. Gamedev is as much a technical art as it is a creative one.

Indie teams do not have the luxury of filling roles like AAA does. There are indie games who just don’t have an artist and will need to rely on commissioning artists for their assets.

Game dev COLLECTIVELY needs to push out generative AI. Not only does this hurt the industry as a whole, it causes so many problems for other devs who don’t want to use genAI or are actively avoid genAI

“It’s obviously AI how can they miss it?” The same way unintended bugs make it into the final build: they’re a very small team with larger issues to solve before a game is released and can only do so much to mitigate other problems. Sometimes you just don’t have time.
