Alas and alack. The clear #Brooklyn sky of early this morning has given way to clouds and more clouds. We're so over it by now. No rain in the forecast though, just gloom and wind. At least it will warm up a bit.

The sun is up over #Brooklyn. The sky is blue!! Six days of dark skies, chilly temperatures, gale force winds & torrential rain finally over. Phew.

The weather experts warn us to expect a nor'easter tomorrow, and all weekend. #Brooklyn is certainly feeling the prelude today.

These days, this is a typical Summer evening in #Brooklyn.

Hurrah, we have gas at last! Five months with that lousy hotplate. My dear stove is mine again. Now -- what to cook and bake first . . . .

A good #Caturday to all. The air in #Brooklyn is beginning to clear of Ontario smoke & we are breathing a lot better. Miss Kylie took advantage of the open windows early this morning to watch the trash collection.

Hazardous smoke condition again today in #Brooklyn. It rained hard last night & cleaned the air some. Not too bad this AM, but more smoke blew in at 3 PM. Poor visibility. The trouble is that the wind is coming from the NW, where the fires are in Ontario. Things may begin to ease up tomorrow. 😷

About an hour ago, a zillion or so military helicopters (all different kinds) flew down my #Brooklyn street & over my building. So loud. They're part of whatever military exercise was taking place in the harbor. It was pretty exciting & so I forgot to record it. Sorry.

It's 99F in NYC, & feels like 108. My Notify NYC app reports power outages in the Bronx. Also that some parts of Rockaway Beach in Queens are closed due to "numerous shark sightings." The heat dome will linger for days along with severe storms. What next, I wonder?

The new NYC rent freeze is getting a lot of attention. Blueskyers are full of admiration and praise for our charming new Mayor Mamdani. As an old, old New Yorker, I'd like to see Zohran in action. He must be doing a heck of a lot of bold navigating in a city known for its lethal politicking.

It's now 3 months to the day that my building has been without cooking gas or the use of the laundry room. Plumbers come & go pulling out & putting things into the stove. The landlord gave us hot plates. We now wait on the NYC Dept. Of Buildings for permission to turn the gas on. Could be ages.

Has anyone else seen the hyperbolic TV ad lauding D*nald for saving us yet again by bringing back vaping? It seems to be an AI D*nald, looking all heroic and purposeful. Vaping: It's the patriotic thing to do.

I have an observation: I worked in a building across the street from th UN. When they have their annual opening day activities in September, the area is awash with various levels of security, mostly Federal & international. There is Secret Service for blocks around the UN.

Speaking of mainstream news, I have an observation: I've been noticing that many newsreaders, especially the young ones, gesture as they read/speak. This is a change. In the past such behavior was discouraged, as it might be interpreted as editorializing.
