Pasted my day's caloric intake to Claude, which included a piece of funfetti cake my wife made. The app only had an entry for the raw mix, so I logged that. Claude lectured me against eating raw flour and told me to microwave it first?????

incredible discourse, truly no notes

twitter user B: "Bread and Circus"

saw someone complain that the change where VS Code attributes your code to Copilot was done by a "non-technical contributor", but when I look, this seems like a pretty technical contributor to me

asked Claude what I'm supposed to do in the "What's Eating The Watervine?" quest in #CavesOfQud, and it 1000% just made shit up
The setup: Mehmet in Joppa tells you something is eating the village's watervine crops at night. Your job is to figure out what and report back.
Step-by-step:

Find the watervine field in Joppa. As you noted, watervine is brown/tan reedy stalks (not green — my earlier mistake). Use the Look command (l or ;) and hover over the various fields to identify which one is watervine specifically. It's somewhere on Joppa's local map — most likely one of the fields you mentioned near Mehmet or the water wheel.
Position yourself near the watervine, not in it. A few tiles away with line of sight. If you have any Hide skill, use it. If not, just standing nearby works at low levels — the eater isn't going to be checking carefully.
Wait until night. Use the wait command — "wait until dusk" or "wait until night" if your version has that option, otherwise wait in chunks of 100-200 turns. The eater shows up at night, not during the day.
Watch what appears. A creature will move into the watervine field and start munching. Do not immediately attack. Look at the creature carefully — use the Look command to inspect it and read its description.
The eater is a "glowpad" — a peaceful, glowing slug-like creature. It's not malicious, it's just hungry and the watervine is convenient food. It won't attack you and isn't dangerous.
You have a choice. Report back to Mehmet with what you saw. He'll ask what you want to do. The options are roughly:

Kill the glowpad — straightforward, removes the problem, simple reward.
Tell Mehmet it's a glowpad and let it live — you can suggest moving it or letting it be. The "good" outcome involves not killing it; glowpads are harmless and the village can handle minor crop loss.

The non-violent resolution is the better one both ethically (in-fiction) and mechanically — you get reputation with relevant factions and feel good about yourself. Mehmet might be a little disappointed but he'll accept it.
