These are total migration figures over the period, but not net migration. "Net migration to the UK has fluctuated dramatically over the last 10 years, rising from around 300,000 in the mid-2010s to a historic peak of over 900,000 in 2023, before falling sharply to 171,000 by 2025. "

Exactly what I was going to post. As an 'expat' who has chosen to live in France, I tend to correct people by pointing that I am also an immigrant, albeit a French citizen as well now. But apparently I am the "right kind of immigrant"! I despair.

I am not sure he can spend less time than he does now - i.e. none at all?

Couldn't agree more! Lived in Toronto for three years, and it will always fascinate me - "Beautiful Lake" indeed.

Already law in France. Large car parks covered - airports, train stations, big supermarkets. Small public spaces will be soon. Installations often paid by third-party energy developers who fully fund, build, & operate under zero-cost model, selling power/sharing revenue. Why not UK? Triple win.

As I have posted several times, France is way ahead. They recently brought in a law that any place with more than 80 spaces had to put in solar panels : supermarkets, shopping plazas, airports, railway stations etc. It is work in progress, but where it already exists, it is brilliant. Win-win-win.

It works brilliantly now all over France! Cars are sheltered in hot sun, protected in snow & rain, and generating plenty of electricity - a triple win. They are not covering green spaces, but large car parks - eg. supermarkets, railway stations and airports.

Law in France since 2023. Lots with more than 80 spaces must install solar canopies. Supermarkets, airports, railway stations with over 400 spaces had till 2026. Smaller lots till 2028, for both new and existing facilities. Cars sheltered in the winter, cool in summer, + electricity. Triple win.

Which would presumably, make him an economic immigrant in someone else's country. Oh, the hypocrisy!

Perhaps he meant "amongst the most infamous" ?

It would be interesting to match that with how much time he has spent on his "day" job. Not often in Clacton or the HoC, as I understand it.

The ONS link is very revealing and should be more widely circulated. Showing that almost everywhere in England and Wales has over 90% of people speaking English. The fact that many households speak another language at home should be regarded as a bonus not drawback.

Out of 650! Why do they get all the media coverage, when they are but a minute part of the HofC? Polling numbers are not voting numbers - yet. They should not be given the "oxygen of publicity" as a famous PM once said.

France is way ahead on this - many railway station and airport carparks are already covered, and locally our supermarket is about to do the same. Keeps the cars cool in summer, and the snow off them in winter, and produces electricity at the same time. Win-win-win.

If memory serves, I was definitely into comics (Beano & Dandy) between 9 & 13, and not into 'proper' books, as a girl a the end of the 1950's. Became an avid reader later on, and now have full bookshelves in almost all rooms. I don't think we should be a) surprised or b) worried.

Even if I were to be able to find all that information, I would certainly not want to divulge it to them. I shall travel happily elsewhere for the foreseeable future.

Just wondering why there is a picture of Dutch buses, when the article is referring to Danish and Norwegian ones. Or am I missing something?

This is so true. It was obvious to anyone who knew anything about how being in Europe helped to catch criminals across borders, because of having access to Europol and other EU agencies. But Brexiteers chose to ignore this and now are stridently demanding that we compound this by leaving the ECHR.

The de Gaulle family is giving the French state the manuscript of his Appeal of June 1940. The story of that broadcast features in #BelievableLies

Honestly? This man is now (and has been for a while) definitely certifiable. Who is going to do it?
