Exclusive: Congo files criminal complaints against Apple in Europe over conflict minerals
The Democratic Republic of Congo has filed criminal complaints against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, lawyers for the Congolese government told Reuters.

6/ 💚 This could be a defining moment for corporate accountability. We’re evolving toward clearer, stronger rules—and companies must adapt. Because sustainable, ethical practices aren’t just about compliance. They’re about survival.

5/ 🗺️ With the #2030 UN #SDG deadline approaching, the pressure is mounting. #EthicalSupplyChains aren’t optional—they’re essential. The stakes? Brands risk more than their reputations; operational & financial stability are on the line.

Vero @verocelis.bsky.social · 17/12/2024
4/ 💡 Why does this matter? If companies ignore their supply chains, the risks are massive: #HumanRightsViolations Regulatory non-compliance Market backlash The #Congo case is a wake-up call for businesses with complex, global value chains.

3/ Europe driving change w/ stricter regulations 🇫🇷 Duty of Vigilance Law (Loi sur le devoir de vigilance) 🇩🇪 Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG) 🇳🇴 Transparency Act (Åpenhetsloven) Add in the EU’s CSRD & CS3D, lead to this: Companies must disclose how they manage environmental & human rights risks 🌿

2/ 🌍 A global shift is happening. Countries are tightening laws on supply chain transparency & human rights. This case highlights how failure to address risks—especially conflict minerals—can lead to legal, reputational, and financial consequences. Let’s zoom out to the bigger picture 🧵

Vero @verocelis.bsky.social · 17/12/2024
⚖️ 1/ Today, the Democratic Republic of Congo filed criminal complaints against Apple in 🇧🇪 Belgium & 🇫🇷 France over alleged use of conflict minerals. This isn’t just another case—it could be a game changer for supply chain accountability. Here’s why 👇

7/ The clock is ticking, but there’s still time to make a difference. Let’s work together to create a more sustainable future. 🌱 What changes are you making today for tomorrow? #ClimateActionNow #SustainabilityInEntertainment
000
Vero @verocelis.bsky.social · 17/12/2024
6/ These changes may seem small, but collectively, they can make a huge impact. It’s time for the entertainment industry to lead the charge in sustainability. Every action counts, and together, we can help mitigate climate change. 🌍 #SustainableEntertainment

Vero @verocelis.bsky.social · 17/12/2024
5/ Waste management also needs a change. Composting organic waste can reduce emissions by 41 kg CO2e per tonne, compared to landfilling. It’s time to stop tossing everything into non-recyclable bins and start turning waste into valuable matter. ♻️ #WasteManagement #Composting

Vero @verocelis.bsky.social · 17/12/2024
4/ Next up: rethinking materials. Why stick with high-emission steel and concrete when biomaterials like bacteria-based insulation and wood (stronger than steel per unit of weight) could transform construction? Let’s shift toward sustainable alternatives. 🌱 #Biomaterials
000
Vero @verocelis.bsky.social · 17/12/2024
3/ But there’s hope! The entertainment industry—parks, museums, and more—has a major role to play. Adaptation starts now. Let’s rethink urban landscapes with native plants and green spaces to cool the environment and act as carbon sinks. 🌿 #GreenDesign #SustainableParks

2/ The impacts are already felt: cities could see 5.2 heatwaves/year, with longer allergy seasons, food shortages, and stressed water supplies. It’s a reality that affects everything, including our favorite roller coasters and museums. 🌡️ #ClimateCrisis

1/ As we approach 2025, global temperatures have surged. 2024 is officially the warmest year on record, averaging 1.62°C above pre-industrial levels. The Climate Clock is ticking, and we’ve got 4 years and 217 days to prevent a permanent 1.5°C rise. #ClimateAction

This week, I got to hear my friend Andrés Mitnik talk about Strong by Form at the #iaac. 🌳 One idea that stuck: “Wood used in a tree is stronger than steel or concrete per unit of weight.” 🤯 This could change how we use materials—replacing concrete and steel with wood! #Biomimicry at its best. 👷🏻‍♀️🌍

For sure! I was blown away with the work #Efteling does in their sustainability too! I’m not saying parks don’t do it. I’m saying there is a lot more tons of parks can do 💚. Especially those who are not as mature in the topic yet. Also, I would love to see some park mentoring networks

10/ Moving forward, our industry needs to do more than just “catch up.” The climate crisis is real, and it’s time to lead by example—not just for our businesses, but for the planet. 🌍 What else can we do to contribute to the global climate action conversation? #ClimateActionNow

Vero @verocelis.bsky.social · 29/11/2024
9/ 🏗️ What about sustainable infrastructure? COP29’s $1.3 trillion climate goal asks us all to contribute. Parks in developed regions can lead by example, helping to mentor parks in the Global South on site remediation, green roofing, and other sustainable initiatives. #SustainabilityLeadership

8/ 🔋 Energy Storage & Hydrogen Solutions: COP29’s pledges around energy storage and hydrogen could revolutionize how parks power their attractions. Think battery storage for rides, or hydrogen-powered roller coasters, cutting down reliance on traditional grids. #CleanTech

5/ 🌀 Climate change isn’t waiting. We’re on track for a 3.1°C rise by 2100, which means the roller coaster and entertainment industry needs to step up. Here are a few thoughts on how parks, museums, and venues can get involved in the climate conversation. #GlobalWarming

4/ But the most important news: a $1.3 trillion climate finance target was set for 2035—$300 billion/year from developed nations alone. The goal? Help developing countries deal with climate impacts. So how does this impact our industry? #BakuFinanceGoal

Vero @verocelis.bsky.social · 29/11/2024
3/ One of the key milestones from COP29: The Loss and Damage Fund will officially begin financing climate adaptation and mitigation projects by 2025, with $730 million pledged so far. This is huge for vulnerable nations. #LossAndDamage #ClimateFinance
