#NIH Present “in person” at the Senate Appropriations markup of LHHSE. There is bipartisan rejection of the destructive cuts to NIH. Committee is also proposing a $420 million increase. They are also rejecting forward funding of grants. Keep fighting!!! @altnih4science.bsky.social

#NIH I attended the Appropriations Committee hearing in-person and sat two rows behind the NIH DIrector. This man did not prepare this budget - Vought and OMB did…asked…but he would not admit it. In my 40 years of watching health policy and federal budgets…what a tragedy!!! GOD save America🙏🏾

Several key points: 1) He Immediately sought to restore reviews and advisory councils. Everything should be back to normal by May. 2) The pass back plans that were leaked must have the NIH leadership input. There is bi-partisan support for keep NIH as a global crown jewel.

@altnih4science.bsky.social 2/2 In my experience, Institutes and agencies do not award new grants or do new hires when the annual budget is not set and when they are under CRs. I am closely watching what Congress is doing with the current year FY2025 budget. Compounded by DOGE’s mission.
