Cole generally has a really hard time dealing with the extreme ends of his mental health issues, but he does eventually exchange his harsh self destruction for healthier coping methods, even if that's basically just a cry for help regulating to his husbands and medicinal herbs. #dnd #dndoc #art #oc

Redid a couple recent art a little because I upgraded my hair skills. Cole has an unfortunate habit of hair pulling when he's having meltdowns, so it's pretty messy and broken, despite being soft as fur. It also drives one of his husbands crazy he just keeps it that way. #dnd #dndoc #oc #art

Cole has chronic spinal nerve pain that affects his legs and general back pain from his scars. He also has schizophrenia and severe ptsd. He ignores his pain well but that added stress and everything else makes dealing with his mental health a nightmare for him. It tends to be a rollarcoaster.

It took a couple minutes for Cole to explain his odd behavior, his voice steady, even as his eyes fixed on spaces between his husband's face and his own mind. "Had a nightmare. It was bad." A simple, expected answer.

"Mmmn, I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know if it helps, but I've already rested all I need tonight. I'll keep you safe, my dear." A kiss was softly placed between his horns.

Cole responded in kind, pressing his face against Synthe's chest. "It helps." He exhaled, speaking again much quieter. "I'm sorry." Whether that was to Synthe for the burden of providing comfort or to himself for his constant failure to undo the knot stuck in his chest, he wasn't sure.

"No need to apologize. I like to help where I can, and either way I'm happy to be someone to lean on."

Thoughts so gentle, so caring. Sometimes they were loud and frantic sure, but in moments like these they were much more calm and predictable than his own were. There was always something special to him about the way they sounded, about how they pushed out the chaos he was constantly fighting. "I know. I fell in love with your kindness."

Cole smiled, something soft, something he was learning to show. He reached up, the scute of his hand scraping softly against the scales of Phillip's maw as he ran his thumb over the line of his mouth. Cole didn't fear him. He never had. With thoughts as clear and honest as his were, he wasn't sure he could fear Phillip's appearance or demeanor. The fangs hidden inside such a stoic expression would simply never find their way around Cole's throat.

That was a lot more than could be said about him...

"Aggression didn't make me very popular either. It's kind of debatable if it even protected me sometimes. Both extremes are probably bad."

The dragonborn blew a small puff of smoke from his nose, huffing out a small "yeah."

"You could very easily hurt me, but you don't. You don't want to. You don't even think about it. Not wanting to means a lot to me."

Oh lmao. Me putting together that an enzyme deficiency that affects steroid metabolization ALSO means I don't metabolize my own cortisol properly, so the hypercortisol reading was real, just normal production in a body that doesn't break it down well. So I also have to keep up with stress reduction.

I have to redo my dexamethasone suppression test because the lab tech... discarded the test that actually checked my cortisol levels. I took the steroid and have been insomnia hell since 3am. I feel like someone hooked me up to a spare battery.
