I just had to pay 30€ for exceeding the speed limit by 7km/h. You can’t even *feel* the difference between 30 and 37. I was constantly looking at the speedometer and trying to stick to all the rules as strictly as I possibly could, and I STILL got fined. 🥴

Do other animals eat a varied diet as well? I feel like humans are super weak in that regard. Like, a panda bear is made completely out of bamboo, or a lion is basically a recycled zebra, you get the point… if a human eats only meat omg omg you’re missing out on vitamin xyz or omega3 or whatnot!!!

I have to implement the DWARF output for my programming language, so that I can GDB into my executable, or at least see a stack trace when it crashes. Printf()s can take you quite far, but I really miss the ergonomics of a debugger 🤓⌨️

Hypocrisy in politics should be fined. Maybe establish some framework to allow politicians to explain some change in stance, e.g. in light of new evidence, or the result of an internal referendum, etc. But no more “say X to get elected, do Y instead”. It is shameful!

In my programming language pointers can be nullable, but then you have to check if the value is there when you access it. A non-nullable pointer is a promise that it will always hold a value. It makes it much harder to forget to check for null before deref’ing pointers, which causes oh so many bugs

Now that everyone is thinking of going back to physical media, it would be a great time to invent a new format. I’d vote for something that looks like a 3,5” floppy, but inside has an optical media disk, instead of magnetic. Using the density of BlueRay disks, but more protected against scratches!

I have finally decided on a memory model for my lil programming language: in general, it’s value semantics, sort of like in C++, but assignments and returns of object types use move semantics, instead of copy by default. The data is memcpy’ed and wiped, so the obj lives on at the post-move location.

Measuring progress of a developer by counting lines of code written is a fallacy. You can do a HUGE leap forward by not writing even a single line of code, just by reading the existing code and gaining a deep understanding of how a system works. By taking a decision on how to solve a problem.
