I decided to do this, render the environment from the camera, map it to a plane from the camera and scale that up (then blend between real and hack with vertex colors). The metal on the wall won't have any flickering!

Yep I do everything in Blender! I prefer this studio light and I have "random" for color selected. It's extremely helpful with distinguishing objects from each other (and the smoother studio light makes it easier on the eyes)
