Another hot take on the Duo after using the simulator: that front screen feels very limited. Shorter than you expect, and your content looks weirdly off-centre because of that sidebar.

Delighted that Apple got Xcode 27.1 beta out this fast! Here's your first look at Indigo running in the Duo simulator. @benricem.bsky.social and I are very happy, but hasten to add that we'll be putting some work into polishing this.

Another banger of a page from @adapalmer.bsky.social's Inventing the Renaissance. A perspective on pre-modern atheism I hadn't considered before.
Turning one's back on answers is very difficult, and is part
of why the study of atheism is so closely tied to the study of
philosophical skepticism, i.e. philosophies which say we cannot
understand the fundamentals of existence. Only very recently
a clear, technical model of the universe. Early atheists had to
saying you believed one thing so much that you were willing to
turn your back on the understandings of the world shared by
almost everyone, even though you didr't have a coherent alterna-
tive. There is a fragile courage to pre-modern atheism, when we
read someone like Diderot (1713-84), who was among the first
atheists who wrote directly about his atheism, as well as my first
historical love, my first-contact pre-modern atheist who made me
want to give years of my life to learning more about people like
him. 49 Diderot feels that the burden of proof is on him, and freely
admits that he can't meet it, that without Intelligent Design he
doesn't have a good explanation for how stars started to move, and
how forest animals have forest camouflage, he just looks around
and the world he sees, with its random encounters and entangled
lives, doesn't feel like it's scripted by any Providence or Maker.
Diderot's atheism is not the self-confident atheism of a modern
armed with scientific answers, but a timid, tender atheism sprout-
ing like a crocus through the snow, with little more than instinct
to back up its radical position. Embracing such an atheism was
very hard. Collecting ideas which could fill in the gaps left by
removing God from science-theories which could explain how
stars moved, or how animals fit their environments-
-could make
it easier.

Horrifying reality for young women in the 21st century. And you gotta know that the best social network to collect and perpetuate this material is X. But it's cool because nobody fucking cares.
It doesn't help that X, the burnerverse's platform of choice, is famously subject to little
moderation. Since Elon Musk acquired the social network in 2022, its algorithm has
regularly boosted racist, misogynistic, and antisemitic content, making it the ideal petri
dish for a coordinated harassment campaign. On X, it's extremely easy for defamatory
or outright illegal content, such as Kowalski's NCII, to spread far and wide before
someone can issue a complaint or file a takedown request. "The platforms tend to be
pretty hands-off," says Ludwin. "They're also financially incentivized by followers, by
views, by clicks .. they're making money off this." (X did not respond to WIRED's request
for comment.)
Most burnerverse victims remain silent following their harassment, hoping for the
uproar to blow over. The majority did not respond to requests for an interview, or
declined to go on the record. They've spent thousands of dollars, if not hundreds of
thousands, on legal fees, therapy, and reputation management firms. "We are
unfortunately navigating something that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy," one
father of a victim tells me anonymously. "I just don't think she's ready at this time."

I'm still reading the home page of pushin.eu and this line lands *hard*. I think more of us devs need to think seriously about what software we can patriate outside the US. You have your assignments. Proceed.
Is this real?
Yes, it is! I'm Peter Ullrich, and I'm building Pushin.eu with my Labrador, Bella. I've worked as a software
developer for almost 10 years and live in Leiden, the Netherlands. You can also find many of my talks on
YouTube. I've built other projects, including Letter to Yourself and Indie Courses. I'm also currently No. ~108
globally. with the most reported CVEs because of my security work with the Erlang Ecosystem Foundation.
I started building Pushin.eu in April 2026, and it will become generally available in early 2027. I'm building
it for the long term, with the hope that it will help Europe become more independent.

This prank, related from @adapalmer.bsky.social's *Inventing the Renaissance* is absolutely s-tier. Imagine having the wherewithal to get a whole city in on your ruse.
The prank which made Amanatini famous was masterminded
by Brunelleschi (who was not yet working on the dome), along with
Brunelleschi's equally famous lover Donatello and several of their
friends. Our account comes from a text written a number of years
later by admirers of Brunelleschi, so we need to keep that bias in
mind, but the details are as clear as they are implausible. Together,
Brunelleschi and his friends conspired to convince Amanatini
that he had gone mad and was actually someone else. Through
their influence, one morning suddenly everyone in the entire city
started addressing Amanatini as Matteo Mannini, an unskilled
day laborer (the kind that earns 35 florins a year). Brunelleschi
and friends locked him out of his house, and hid inside the house
loudly impersonating the "real" Amanatini, with their befuddled
victim listening outside. They got everyone in on this, and even got
the city watch to arrest Amanatini for Matteo Mannini's debts and
throw him in jail, where visitors pretended not to recognize him.
They then had two men bail him out, claiming to be his brothers,
who took him to their home and spent the evening convincing
him that he really was the day laborer Matteo Mannini, and that
his memory of being a master woodworker was a fit of madness.
Once their victim finally fell asleep, the pranksters returned him to
his real bed, and in the morning pretended nothing had happened,
trying to convince him it was a strange, elaborate dream.

We applied for Apple's Small Business Program on April 27 — three months ago as of Monday. Radio silence. We're eating an extra 15% from our meagre revenues thanks to that. But if Apple could use some of our unearned revenues to fix sub pricing on ASC, that'd be great. 😡

Fantastic wrap up on this article in the latest Wired about AI fact checking (spoiler, no worries). Name dropping the great @adapalmer.bsky.social? Spectacular.
Years ago, during a fact-checking
assignment, I talked to the sci-fi writer
and history professor Ada Palmer, who
told me what she often tells her stu-
dents: We know less than 1 percent of
what happened 500 years ago, and two-
thirds of what we know is wrong. Knowl-
edge exists on a timeline too, and the
work of generations is carrying on that
knowledge without little bits slipping
through and getting lost. Are we really
OK entrusting our legacy to a bunch of
distributed servers, operated by micro-
chips with lifespans of 5 to 10 years?
One final thing that I've been ignor-
ing, which is so very human of me, is
that humans make mistakes too. As
Holan reminded me, abstaining from
chatbots isn't some foolproof saving
grace. At least, I'm 33 to 90 percent sure
that's what she said. At the end of our
interview, when I looked down at my
recorder, I found I'd forgotten to turn
it on.

And Apple never really took a definitive decision with the iPad, so they kept
changing course and approach. They kept throwing stuff at it, at this iPad that kept
becoming a jack of an increasing number of trades, while being a master at very
few of them, comparatively. They built an increasingly higher tower of 'stuff the
iPad can potentially do' over the inadequate foundation that iOS/iPadOS was and
is. They thought that the problem was solvable by throwing faster and faster CPUs
at it, while the actual work should have been done on the operating system front.
There are still things a Newton MessagePad 2100 with a 162MHz ARM processor
can do better than an M5 iPad Pro because NewtonOS is a better-designed OS for
the device it runs on than iPadOS is on the iPad.
