Agreed. Perhaps the OL is paramount for RBs moreso than the QBs

True. I feel the OL is necessary to protect the QB.

I wrote a Substack yesterday afternoon about my time at the 2026 Knicks Twitter Classic. Even though I'm not on that site as much as I once was, it was still a surreal moment nonetheless. Read below: substack.com/@vdadhania/n... #Knicks #NewYorkForever

2026 Knicks Twitter Classic was the perfect ending to the 2025-26 Knicks Season
The 2026 Knicks Twitter Classic was surreal. This may not happen again .A view from my eyes and sights.

Knicks Twitter classic was a surreal moment for me. Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson are real ones. I can’t believe this is real. #Knicks

Great deal indeed. Assuming Shamet's starting salary is indeed $5,357,143, we're $6,018,808 below the 2nd apron. 2 more roster spots to fill out + flipping Dadiet for some more room. Luxury tax bill is just under $39M. #Knicks

Vivek @vdadhania.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
yes I did

Vivek @vdadhania.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
I did the math and it would require discounted extensions for KAT & Hart. Even with that (plus a Deuce extension), we'd be $1.5M over the 2nd apron.
110
Vivek @vdadhania.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
We need to be mindful about staying out of the Apron before the Brunson extension kicks in. I get losing Mitch. It hurts and he is definitely hard to replace. But for a part-time player who'll likely not play 60 games next season, is he worth an extra $72M? #Knicks /END

Vivek @vdadhania.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
By Knicks ducking the 2nd apron this season, we can theoretically use the TPMLE (by dumping Dadiet via 2RPs). We have more flexibility to work around regression and injury. We also save a hefty chunk of change especially with the KAT/Hart/Brunson extensions looming. #Knicks 9/
100
Vivek @vdadhania.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
And let's not forget all the restrictions the 2nd apron sets on teams. That includes: 1) No aggregation trades (only one-to-one) 2) No MLE 3) No cash allowed to be used in trades In addition to all the restrictions set in the 1st apron. So any injury will screw us. #Knicks 8/

While we all assume the Knicks are making money as a team (revenues), they have a lot more operating costs. Take the 10-K from last fiscal year for MSG Sports (Knicks). Most of the YoY change in operating income actually has to do with luxury tax - around $63M YoY #Knicks 7/
100
Vivek @vdadhania.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
Luxury Tax in 2027/2028 (with Mitch) spikes to $107M. Contrast that with a slight decrease in $34M w/o Mitch assuming brackets widen to around $6.691M. Remember this is irrespective of 2nd apron. When Dolan says he doesn't want to go above 2nd apron, it's about TAXES. #Knicks 6/
100
Vivek @vdadhania.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
The math gets murkier in 2027/2028 when the Knicks officially become a tax repeater. The tax rates spike by $2 per incremental dollar above the luxury tax (see image). Assuming some discounts from KAT/Hart + new Deuce deal + trading Dadiet, you're above the 2nd apron. #Knicks 5/
110
Vivek @vdadhania.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
Additionally, our luxury tax bill spikes to $98M. For context, the Knicks paid less than 1/2 of that last season. Not really chump change. On the contrary, swap out Mitch with someone on the vet min and the luxury tax bill drops $60M. Or $72M incremental salary cost. #Knicks 4/
110
Vivek @vdadhania.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
Had we kept Mitch at the same value, we are ABOVE the 2nd apron by $9.5M. Assume we salary dump Dadiet and maybe we are only $7.9M. Fine, but know that there are minimal exits out of the apron this season if an injury happens of Mitch plays 40 games or less (likely). #Knicks 3/

Vivek @vdadhania.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
See the image below. It's a 3 year projection but focus on 2026/2027. I simulated the total cost of bringing Mitch back at what Boston offered. Caveat - Boston offered Mitch a player option and I bet we wanted a team option. In return, Mitch prolly wanted more AAV. #Knicks 2/

KNICKS Math/Salary Cap Analysis: OK, way too Knicks fans mad about not keeping Mitch. Blaming Dolan for this. Ok, fine. But for anyone who's actually in a rational state of mind and wants to see some numbers, pay attention and let's go to class. Long thread awaiting. #Knicks 1/

funny thing about the conversation around "draft picks" is that no one ever talks about teams properly cashing out on draft picks as currency to get better talented players.
