little did you know, almost half of that is also the main fiber route from seattle to vancouver BC (from about 6 to about 1 o'clock)

this is so scary to me watching it, having lived in germany and read a lot about german history in WWII (and prior to) the current situation has far too many uncomfortable parallels

now we just need a 1993 or 2006 style storm, we are so overdue.

we (ziply fiber) are showing power outages in a bunch of places in southern snohomish county and a number of short duration outages across north king county in PSE territory.

that should help for summer water supply

honestly, I've listened to quite a few of hitler's speeches, he is a better speaker than trump but the parallels are there.

It has gotten terrible over there. You made the right choice.

yep, I posted something similar on twitter, fun fact I nearly minored in german so this is a bit close to the original sources for me. Good to know that we are now in 1930s germany. :(

honestly that is what I see too, totally crazy how many folks act like they know stuff that they clearly don't

@artofneteng.bsky.social When can do something ISP focused? Happy to participate and share real data if that would be fun.

that is where we all go this time of year, like birds flying south.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing, it just seems so negative now.

as far as I know it there is no public data on the 115 KV transmission networks of the independent utilities.

BPA publishes a weekly outage report updated every day on their website, covers all their lines and most other 230/240KV and up lines elsewhere that are tied into their system

plus that job title sounds awesome!

Have you pinged the FM guys that are making their way up there to care for the transmitters? They were on generator so long I'm sure they have done some diesel hauling and might be able to just let you up the road.

John van Oppen @vanoppen.com · 23/11/2024
BPA still has a bunch of transmission out

that was probably one of the big observed voltage sags for sure!

I know that feeling, I said the same things to people. Whoops. Still want to intro you to the ziply engineering team and blow some switches up.

could not agree more on intellectual curiosity, a lack thereof is hugely limiting for folks.
