If participation was voluntary, then nobody was forcing them to do anything. Choosing to wear the gear, altering it to send a message, and then claiming persecution afterward sounds less like standing on principle and more like manufacturing a victim narrative.

The Middle East has experienced recurring political, military, and sectarian conflict/ war roughly the past 100–110 years in the modern era. New leaders in Iran isn’t going to change that, no offense but it’s their culture, stay out of it but again that’s too late.
