Compared to drawing Nakoruru, this was simple.

Of the three girls in that prior SNK poll—which included Nakoruru and Yuri—Athena is in the middle for me. Her design is hard to judge when it changes so radically, but the overall look she had around this late ‘90s era is cute.

Compared to Yuri and Nakoruru, she does seem more boring character-wise. I’m not as familiar with her background as the other girls, to be fair, but she somehow feels the most standard as just a singer.

So why does she rank higher than Nakoruru? Because I love her abilities and design more.

Telekinesis isn’t a power I think of much. That said, it can be cool when it comes to flinging things around. For this drawing, I like interpreting Athena’s signature Psycho Ball attack as flooding the recipient’s head with thousands of voices when it explodes against them.

Like Nakoruru, I can only judge how she plays in Capcom vs. SNK, where she’s ranked low but I find fun to use. It’s for more than just the Psycho Ball, I promise. It’s not overpowered there.

Because of her excited expression combined with a ball near her feet, I’m most reminded my Foot Crust Bubblegum drawing from 2024.

The hardest part about drawing Athena was simply selecting an outfit. Despite how I praised her look around this older era, her outfits would change in smaller ways all the time. Ultimately the differences are so minor to not affect her too badly, but I wanted to make sure I had the right look down.

Like with many drawings this year, I debated which colour to give her nails. Purple matched her hair, but I liked the red matching her clothes.

Her colours went through a major shift, as originally I had her skin pale. She also sported brighter purples and reds. While accurate to how she’s coloured, I found it an eyesore even without the Psycho Ball present. So I darkened her colours for a more appealing palette.

Scrunched toes seem less popular than spread toes, but I’m happy with my choice here.

While livestreaming in the server, I spent weeks going through a list of western cartoons and commenting on them. Things I’ve seen and things I haven’t seen.

We laughed, learnt some interesting trivia and had a good time. It reaffirmed my belief that old shows weren’t always the best. While animation is struggling today, the old days had plenty of average or terrible shows. Looking at this list and rewatching clips made me appreciate the good stuff even more, as well as discovering new content.

Another positive is that I now have several more characters in mind that I can draw.

I watched Disney Channel growing up but never saw The Buzz on Maggie. Years later I saw a glimpse of it online and confused it with Growing Up Creepie.

After watching a few episodes, it’s alright but not one of the bests. However, that’s fine. Over time I’ve learnt to appreciate things in the middle. Not everything has to be the best to be valuable. If I had watched it as a kid in the 2000s, I would’ve liked it as much as other Disney shows.

Maggie is cute for someone with such cartoonish anatomy. The big eyes are a plus, since they help make her very expressive. Plus, I appreciate that she wants to be a rock star but still has a colourful palette.

Often people will associate rock with goth/emo, which means nothing but blacks, whites and reds if we’re lucky.

Her deep voice makes her less annoying. I feared it would be annoying squeaky, but it’s just Lynn Loud in a fly’s body.

I was thinking about making a foot worship drawing, and then I remembered Nintendo was remaking Ocarina of Time. Why not ride that wave?

I’ll be blunt: I hate the art style of this remake. The characters in the N64 and 3DS versions looked like they belonged to the same world. But here, Link feels more detailed than many other characters, who look simple. Then there are the stranger anatomy changes, like what they did to Zelda’s face. It’s crazy that the low-polygon N64 model was somehow cuter.

I’m not a big Zelda fan, so I’m not the target audience for this remake. Still I’m not thrilled with game remakes in general these days. It’s not because I’m clinging to the past. But game development is so expensive and resource-intensive now that, given the choice, I’d rather see those resources go towards an original game than another version of something old.

With Ocarina of Time, it’s also a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don’t situation. Change too much, and the fans will complain you’ve messed with a classic. Don’t change enough, and people like me are left wondering why the remake needs to exist at all, especially when the original is already on the same machine.

An enhanced remaster of the 3DS version would’ve taken less work and, in my opinion, been a more welcome option. They could’ve bundled it with Majora’s Mask and really made it special.

Regardless, here’s Malon being a freaky farmgirl.

I went with this posing because I thought it’d be boring if it was another standard “sit and worship” type of deal. Besides, this would be a fun pose to be in, having your butts touching like this.

I hate drawing Nakoruru.

I’ve never played a Samurai Shodown game. I’m only familiar with the first one thanks to its various ports. The closest I’ve come to using Nakoruru in a game is in the Capcom vs. SNK series. She’s not my favourite character to use there, but she is one of the better SNK characters in CvS2. I just don’t use K Groove if I can help it.

This is the first SNK character I’ve drawn, if memory serves me right. She was selected in a poll consisting of herself, Yuri and Athena. I included her so the poll wouldn’t be lopsided in favour of the other two, but I didn’t expect her to win. It was only afterwards that I realised she was one of the most popular SNK characters.

The girl got a visual novel on the Dreamcast.

I don’t have strong feelings about her because I don’t know much about her other than that she loves nature and animals.

Some SNK staff members were happy about her popularity because she was a prominent female character who wasn’t loved just for her appearance, which is cool. They seem consistent in not putting her in skimpy outfits for sex appeal.

Nothing wrong with sex appeal, but if all your female characters have it while not all the males do, it does come off strange.

As for the drawing, it was a headache to work on. With the bird and Nakoruru’s clothing, I started to regret the whole concept. Still, for what it’s worth, I think it turned out quite nicely.

I wish I had come up with more dialogue, but with this being a specific scenario, it just wasn’t worth it. This is a concept meant for the variants where her feet stink, not where they’re freshly scented.

At least now I can move on to simpler characters. “Saikobôru!”

It feels like my summer vacation is over. If I had one at all.

Replaying the original Kingdom Hearts trilogy has reignited my passion for drawing these characters. The newer entries offer less inspiration, but the classics?

I still hold the first three games—KH, COM, KH2—in high regard as outstanding PlayStation 2-era titles. They rank among my all-time favourites. After that, the gameplay falters, and the narrative takes a nosedive. I’m currently trudging through 358/2 Days in my server, and it’s somehow worse than I remember.

KH2 marked the series’ turn towards its own cast, sidelining Disney and Final Fantasy elements. This change was necessary for establishing its own identity, yet many original characters remain underdeveloped. There are notable ones like Sora, Riku and Naminé, but most are rather one-dimensional, leaving us to fill in their personalities. Organisation XIII, particularly the KH2 members, lack compelling backstories. Even when they return as real people, they don’t do much.

Given the spotty release schedule, the overly convoluted plot, the diluted Disney elements and the missed potential of a true crossover featuring Square Enix properties, I understand why this series struggles to draw in new fans.

From an outsider’s perspective, it’s a Sonichu-style vanity project: an original cast that occasionally allows Disney icons to walk on stage.

I did one drawing previously for this game where the roles were reversed. It was in 2023 as part of one of those two Sega packs that can be viewed now.

The drawing is based on Evolution, which was an RPG on the Dreamcast. It has two DC games and a strange semi-compilation on GameCube if I recall, but I didn’t play the second one. While not a Sega-made RPG, I’d say it’s one of those Sega-adjacent games, where it’s a little associated with the company due to being a near launch game for the North American Dreamcast.

I like the game. I haven’t played it in over a decade, but I thought it was a fun RPG. At most I remember having issues with the dungeon design, but again, I can’t recall every detail. It’s not my favourite DC RPG, as Skies of Arcadia would take that title.

Though RPGs on CD-based platforms are annoying as hell with their load times.

Yes, for the one nerd typing away, I know the DC uses GD-ROMS; they’re still slow as fuck, more like CDs than DVDs.

One of the things I love about the game is the design of the main party. Four out of five of the characters are designed in a cute style, and Mag and Linear both hit the right spots for me.

If you don’t know, every main character is named after a type of weapon. Mag Launcher, Linear Cannon… They weren’t subtle at all.

Unfortunately I struggled to come up with dialogue for this drawing. To be fair, the girl doesn’t talk much if at all during the game, so it’s in character. It just feels empty without my familiar text bubbles. Still, I like how it looks overall.

As you could guess, her outfit in particular was making me mad. It’s so complicated.

I wouldn’t mind drawing the two other cute characters I haven’t yet. We’ll see if and when that happens.

Just like I said when drawing another Dragon Ball character earlier this year, I have no familiarity with any of the spin-offs that deal with time shenanigans.

Based on the little that I gathered, I’m going to assume Chronoa is not that useful of a person. I say that because Dragon Ball has a poor record with god characters. While I get that their uselessness was originally a joke, by the Buu Arc in particular, they introduced so many redundant positions that it became too distracting. One good thing that Super does is clearly define what gods have which roles.

Whether she’s super important or not, I really like Chronoa’s design. It comes from cuteness more than anything; seeing her mad is adorable. I do have to say that the “coat” she has is weird. I’ve seen a similar style on other characters, but practically speaking, it looks so inconvenient to wear.

This is a quick drawing, as you can gather, but I’m hoping I wrote her in a way that is in character. Like I alluded to, I am not that interested in sitting through these DB spin-offs.

If nothing else, her feet have come out fine. I had to remember to make them somewhat small to match her size, since I’m so used to drawing them bigger. She doesn’t have nail polish normally, but her nails looked too plain without the black.

She is a character I wouldn’t mind drawing again, maybe with even more details. I feel there is a lot I could do with her.

Knowing that she keeps her room a mess is already a good sign of dirtiness.

Right off the bat, I ran a poll in the server asking for favourite male Pokémon protagonists, and nobody picked Victor. It’s not hard to see why. While I notice a number of women find him appealing, of all the males, he’s one of the plainest designs. Hell, I kept calling him Lucas and Ethan while drawing this—both of whom have far better designs.

On the flip side, I love the Dancer trainer class in this game. I’ll give Generation VIII credit like always: its character designs are strong. One area where it surpasses Generation VII is in terms of colour. SM already had a colourful cast, but the saturation is stronger in SwSh, and not in a way I find unpleasing. Even Legends: Arceus, despite its muted environments, keeps the character palettes diverse enough to stand out.

Contrast that with SV, where everything feels lifeless. It’s fine to attempt a grounded style for specific areas, but applying it to an entire region is boring.

This specific idea spawned from my wheel of randomness, putting the girl in a foot worship scenario. I could’ve used Gloria as the worshipper, but getting Victor out of the way took priority.

Since this was a quick piece, there isn’t too much to say about it. I still don’t like drawing side profiles, but I think the composition works well with her right foot shoved right up to the camera. I also had to remind myself that everyone in Galar has a British accent. It’s easy to forget; whenever I write casual, street dialogue, my brain defaults to an American or Canadian tone.

As a random aside, I really want to see 13-Amp from WarioWare in these clothes now. They’d fit her well, I think.

I’ve elaborated on my feelings about Naminé before, but I’ll abridge it. She’s better than Kairi and Xion in both character and design for me; yes, I’m including Kairi, since she only has one good design. While I wish she had more screentime in KH2—which I’m replaying right now—I’d much prefer those limited appearances over her hollow return in KH3.

I’ll never get over that. How do you just have her on the front of the box when she has thirty seconds of screentime?

Either retire her gracefully or give her a purpose in the next arc. And if she’s going to be relevant, don’t shovel another Keyblade into her hands. We have enough fighters.

That aside, given her gentle nature, I fully believe she’d be down to suck on someone’s feet if they asked. Especially if it’s a boy she already has an attachment to. From sweat to hot toe jam, she’d take it all in.

I’m mixed on this pose I chose for Sora. The focus on the soles obscures his toenails. It’s a minor detail, but I’ve expressed before how much I appreciate seeing every angle of a foot. The soles might be the main treat, but the tops complete the picture.

I’m not sure if anything will top the first drawing of him this year, but I’m more than happy to keep trying.

In terms of challenges, Sora’s hair gave me more trouble than last time. But Naminé's hair was somehow worse. Even using an exact back-shot reference, getting the hair to drape correctly around her neck was a struggle.

I’m just thrilled to add another piece of Sora getting his feet licked. Having one of the girls be the doing it is a bonus, seeing as female-on-male foot art is infinitely rarer than male-on-male. Though being fair, that’s just the norm in this community as a whole.

If I were in Sora’s position and this quiet girl gave me permission to do anything with her, let’s just say her mouth would be put to work on a lot more than just my feet.

Hey, if she offered, it’s not a problem.

Back in the 2000s, FOP was as important to Nick as SpongeBob. It has obviously fallen hard since then, and I’d argue its lows are far worse than the sponge’s.

FOP was never peak comedy for me; the older I get, the more awkward most the jokes get. But the world-building, characters and sheer creativity of the series kept me hooked.

After S7’s fun Wishology event was when I lost interest. Most of the characters vanished, making the world smaller. The writers leaned too hard on Cosmo, Timmy’s dad and Crocker—the three idiots.

That brings us to Chloe: the network mandate meant to breathe life into a dying show.

They couldn’t have botched her intro worse. Giving us a girl whose only error was something she couldn’t even predict was stupid. Later episodes tried to course-correct, but the damage was done. The ending of the show devolves into annoying screaming, and Chloe is the worst offender.

Still, I don’t think she was dead on arrival. Her character had a simple fix: make her perfectionism the result of overbearing parents.

Flawed characterisation aside, Chloe has a great design. It is a strange that she wears sandals while most characters don’t, but it makes her stand out and almost gives her a hippie style.

The setup to this drawing was easy. A girl obsessed with being perfect? Naturally she’d be fine letting you play with her feet, provided you asked nicely. Sharing is caring.

Her need to please makes her a foot fetishist’s dream.

As for the pose, the toe lift on her right foot is one of my favourite sights. I can’t fully explain why, but seeing the bottoms of toes flexing through a sandal is incredibly arousing. It’s already pretty, but the footwear enhances it. The use of footwear is also why I wasn’t bothered drawing two sandal-wearing characters so close to each other. In this drawing, the sandals are more central to the piece than they were for Lana last week.

Chloe might’ve been a horrible character, but she makes for some good eye candy.

I played the hell out of Arcana Heart on the PlayStation 2 but only recently got around to the sequels. I can be very picky when it comes to fighters, but Arcana Heart’s rapid gameplay clicked with me within a few attempts.

While the first game has a limited roster, every fighter stands out, and the Arcana system feels easiest to execute there. The second game is rough. The Japan-exclusive PS2 port isn’t accurate to the arcade, with the sprites warping into low-resolution garbage when moving. The game’s stiffness is also a turn-off. The third game gets it right, acting as a definitive upgrade that integrates the best elements of the whole series.

Dorothy Albright debuted in the second game, making her new to me. She was the first character I picked up, and I instantly found my main for whenever I boot up the third game.

Once more, I am a sucker for magic themes—even stage magic—and her design nails it with this dorky aesthetic I adore. Better yet, her playstyle matches exactly how I like to fight. I believe “rushdown” is the term.

Hypnosis isn’t my kink, but it’s prominent in the foot fetish community. I usually hate how it’s portrayed. The multi-coloured eyes are distracting, the staple characters associated with it—like Kaa or Hypno—aren’t appealing, and the execution is often dull. Most of the time it amounts to “Character B does whatever Character A says”.

It’s domination without resistance.

To be appealing for me, hypnosis needs some narrative weight, which a single-panel drawing can struggle to deliver. Make Character B fight the hypnosis before breaking. Let them remember the humiliation afterwards and freak out. Heck, make Character A struggle to hypnotise their prey. A little spice doesn’t hurt.

That’s why having Dorothy actively break Heart down works so well for me here. If I had stuck to my original plan, the result could’ve been forgettable.

Between the composition and the character dynamics, this is one of my favourite pieces of this year.

This is a simple drawing. I mentioned before the year began that it wouldn’t hurt to do more of them with simpler contexts, considering many don’t seem to care if it features the character they like. Though it always feels weird to me to submit something without dialogue and the works. At least the seven variants are intact.

Believe it or not, I had not drawn Sakura Haruno since 2019. That was a very old drawing—one I’ll include in this post just as a reference.

Compared to that old one, this might as well be a masterpiece. For those who like to attempt drawing and give up early, it’s worth reminding them that this is the difference between seven years of work. There were even greater differences in a shorter time.

But focusing on the modern piece, is there much I can say about it? I think I did a great job getting the look of her down.

I went with a scrunching toe pose for variety. I prefer toes to be spread, as I’m not the hugest fan of wrinkles. However, the scrunch pose is still nice to see occasionally; it’s the main movement I’m good at animating, too. I also experimented with bolding the outlines to get more of a cartoony look. When removing it, the drawing appeared less poppy.

I always reiterate my feelings on a franchise or character when I draw them for the first time in a new year, so this will be no different.

Naruto is a franchise I don’t have the strongest attachment to. Outside of the video games I always played with my cousins, I did not have much exposure to it growing up. I have a memory of one girl watching an episode of the original series on a school bus, but even that was in high school, long after that series stopped airing.

The common rhetoric online was that the series sucked. I remember a lot of people comparing it to Dragon Ball and noting how Naruto was just ass compared to it.

That’s something you guys can debate better. But I’ll say this much: at least people seem to like the filler in Naruto’s animated adaptation. (1/2)

This drawing was made during an event I hosted in my server. The event—which I’ve still got to edit and upload—was a live showing of how I normally do drawings. By its nature, this was a quick drawing.

In fact, while the stream went well, it was uncomfortable to make. I was so committed to being a host that I sat in my chair for over three hours straight, which is not healthy. I went to bed feeling sorer than usual. Always stand or take short breaks.

If the name didn’t give it away, this is Azusa Nakano from K-ON!

I’ve read both the comic and seen the animated adaptation of K-ON! I like it. It’s a simple slice-of-life type of story, and I happened to read/watch it around a time where I was watching more shows with heavy stories. So it was refreshing, at least among Japanese media I was engaging with in the early 2010s.

Azusa was picked because of my quick character selection process: a magic wheel.

I wanted to stick with characters I’d drawn before. I have drawn her in 2018, and as you can expect, it’s not a good piece. But in the modern day, replicating her couldn’t be any easier. In fact, I would’ve struggled far more with Yui, as I always had issues shaping her hair.

That said, Yui is my favourite of the five girls. She holds one of the funniest scenes for me; when she goes to sing, and her voice sounds like absolute throat cancer. Azusa is high up there too, to be fair. Both guitarists are charming.

Though funnily, they both rank as my least favourites if we’re going by pure singing voices, with Yui being at the bottom. I’m not a music expert, but the other girls have “fuller” ranges to my ears. Or rather I prefer the deeper pitches of Tsumugi and Mio, with Ritsu being in the middle.

I don’t have much to say about the drawing, largely because I spent three hours explaining it in detail. So I’m a little burnt out of it. Still, I like the end result, and I’m happy that wheel landed on Azusa.
