Something you don't know about me. As a kid I had cancer. The treatment for that messed up my heart so as an adult I had two open heart surgeries. I recovered stronger than ever and now I'm getting really old and I'm worried that I may, completely by accident, be immortal. Dammit, it's not my fault!

It's really difficult for me to talk with people after performing. I'm shy anyway but after a show it's like my head is on another planet. I don't like leaving the impression I'm being aloof but that probably happens a lot.

Jimmy Scott used to come out to perform about once a year and we got to see him. What an amazing person he was! I learned a whole lot about playing the horn by listening to him sing.

I bought Dalis Car in the eighties. I would lay there listening to the album while staring at Daybreak on the cover, my imagination going wild. I became a big fan of Maxfield Parrish because of that. I heard somewhere Peter Murphy hated it. Too bad. Maybe he should have stared at the cover more.

Something you don't know about me: I joined a band that was made up of Jill Sobule's backing band before Todd Rundgren told her to fire her backing band. We were actually quite good. The band broke up just as they were negotiating to get Tony Levin to produce their album. Near miss.

Odd lineup for a concert at the stadium tonight: Benson Boone, Lizzo, and The Killers. It was a private event for a tech company. It's fun biking around there. The huge new video screen makes it easy for riffraff like me to freeload off all the concerts without a ticket or having to work in tech.

The city lately seems smaller to me than any small town. Went to Ladytron and ran into an old friend I haven't seen for almost twenty years. Later on the train a nice couple comes up me with very kind words about my trumpet playing. They were at a show I did in a tiny basement room the night before.
