I used to not like Swampart because he's the same type as Groudon and Kyogre. I have since learned my error

Its not that common to reference. But its not some unknown topic Stancil is making it out to be. Any undergrad, not freshmen, know about it

All this to say for those people who post saying how much they like the pope "look at how he obliterated Vance and awww he likes baseball" I trust them a little less.

Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I undertand this is not one to one, the pope is apart of a long line of a institution and must work within, but again he wouldn't even want to the completely change the church if he could. He likes how it how it is.

If Harry Potter was good, JK liked sports, and said some stuff about how bad republicans are would they excuse her? Maybe! Both are responsible for a lot of terror directed towards trans people.

Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
All this to say, if they'll excuse the pope for a meaningless reason (he likes baseball, a lot of people like baseball) and saying smug stuff in reference to Vance than I wonder who else would they excuse?

Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
He possesses very real institutional power. This is not a case of having some tranaphobic players on your sports team but rooting for them anyways."

Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
But hey everybody he's from Chicago and is a baseball fan, and you can't forget his smug remarks about Vance. So people just wilfully ignore or excuse the ongoing horrendous actions and beliefs held by the catholic church.

Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
We have seen nothing from him but a continuance of catholic bigotry hidden under remarks about compassion. Same shit as under Francis.

Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
The veneration of the pope by a lot of people who are normally quite good with trans stuff leaves a pit in my stomach. I understand that he cannot remake the catholic church by himself, but that point is assuming he would even want to.

Legally speaking there isn't any real relevance. The only times someone's specific race legally matters is affirmative action programs, and native American reservations. In terms of discrimation law US law protects the category of "race" not individual races.

So it becomes: Men are inherently dangerous to children > Women are not inherently dangerous > Only women should work in childcare. Of course this is very broad strokes, and nuance ofc, but this kind of thinking is something I've noticed.

Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
This thinking was a major flaw of 2nd wave feminism. They tackled gender-based stereotypes for women, which was great, but were not interested in doing so for men. By not dismantling stereotypes for men, in the future people are using stereotypes about men to reinforce gender-based roles for women.

This is why some accounts on here using a few individual trans people as a shield to talk about "trans activism" is so annoying. People being rude is a symptom of the interent not anything intrinsic to trans people.
010
Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
A rando trans person saying you have bad politics and are an asshole should not be taken as a fault of trans activists as a whole. Any individual trans person having to be impeccable because any fault is taken as a fault of trans people or trans activism as a whole is frustrating.
111
Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Something incredibly frustrating about being trans online is seeing people criticize trans "activists" when by activist they mean person they don't like online. This is just a distillation of someone being seen as inherently political.

Add in McDonnell v. US. The liberals do snappy dissents sometimes which is fun, but they are still on the whole a negative for this republic.

You can get a pretty good sense of a person's politics from their opinion of youth transitions. This is also why I use it so much as a litmus test on what politicians to support.

To what extent does the right to medical privacy exist? How valued should experts be trusted in deciding government policy? Regulating social media? A lot of this hysteria comes from belief in social contagion theory.

Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
What is the role of government in regulating medicine? Do parental rights overrule the government? What rights do minors have? What rights do parents have over their children?

A reason the topic of youth transition fascinates me so, besides my being trans, is because it touches upon almost every contested area in society.

Moving the ages backwards serve to not only, in society's mind, stamp out the existence of trans people, but to let natal puberty take further hold, thus decreasing the chance of passing, and further mark trans people as an "other"
040
Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Society simple moves the markers on acceptable ways to be trans. It used to be you had to know by age 5 to be a true trans. Now you cannot possibly know until 25.

Assimilation as a tactic does not work. It did not work for gay people and it won't work for us. Assimilation also requires society being willing to allow people to assimilate, it works both ways, and currently society says no.

Playing with strangers should ere in caution but imo boundaries in ttrps are so difficult to get down. Even doing a session 0 there is almost bound to be some conflict in the future over what's acceptable from a player or DM which is why I find it impossible to play with people who arent friends

Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 20/08/2026
I think tables should just do what they want. Understand why people dont want to deal with racism when playing a ttrpg, but in a lot of generic fantasy a level of light racism is to be expected.

The musicial is way too kind to Jefferson. And I understand the musical was explicitly trying to do this but the comparisons to modern day makes it a bad way to understand the past.

Homecoming was ok. Far from home, felt like a direct to video special. And No Way Home did multiverse nonsense, and did the whole wiping the world of Spiderman because they very obviously regretted the previous movies. The movies are just so disjointed.

Cash transfer sounds good. The retirement age is both a politicaly and morally non-starter. It wouldn't cover all but reverting corporate taxes to 1960s/1970s level and ensuring billionaires pay income taxes would cover more than you'd think. Though tbh this really isnt my area.

That would require screening for wealth/income which is more expensive than just handing every senior a blank check for the same amount.

Same situation of people over emphasizing the Treaty of Versailles or portraying Nazi propaganda as brainwashing. Humanity has still not come to grips with WW2.

There's this trend where people force themselves to partialy attribute the rise of fascism in Italy and Germnay to econonic conditions. Mussolini did not make the trains run on time. Hitler was not put into power because of a poor economy.

Many of these players also come from countries with free higher ed, so the point of "we don't cause we have free higher ed" is mute. She could have answered something about the academies and training facilities in Germany, but instead she chose a gotcha againt Americans with a muted point.

They were composed of different groups with different interests, and even those who marched agasint Egypt was maybe half of them, and this was only after the colaspe started.
000
Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
Maybe integrated into their society was the wrong wording. But the Sherdan served as guards for the Pharaoh even after the death of Rameses. The the sea people did not act as a foreign wave causing colaspe as they went, rather their raiding was a consequence of the colaspe.
100
Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
The colaspe of the Hitittes were also seemingly not caused by the Sea Peoples or the colaspe of the Mycenean economy. To me this speaks to a lot of localized colaspe that spread outwards. The Hitittes could not keep the employ of the sea people mercenies so they raided, and after went elsewhere.
120
Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
My issue with this view is that many internal issues these societies experienced weren't interconnected. As far as we know the colaspe of the Mycenean manor economy was due to internal factors and some part natural disaster. There also remaines an unclear explanation for the eastward migration.
130
Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
My point is that the Sea Peoples did not function as one group many of them fought for Egypt and Egypt integrated them into their society. And those 5 teaming up against Egypts was more an alliance of oppurtunity rather than anything grand.
110
Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
This was after they were done raiding the Hitittes, so with the only real stable lands left being Egypt so they went there to raid, and this was 5 groups out of an Egyptian identified 9. My saying it wasn't an alliance was misleading on my part.
110
Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
When the Hittites started to colaspe for reasons mostly unrelated to the Sea Peoples some groups raided and pillaged. And the Sea People the Hitittes could no longer employ was often the groups committing the pilaging.
130
Val Valiant @valvaliant.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
It was less about an alliance and more an overlap of interests. Some did raid and pillage most notably againt the Hitittes. Other groups served as bands as mercenies enlisting with Egypt or the Hitittes.

To someone who never felt they had a real childhood, average would be magical. Something being average would not void the longing if average was better than what was experienced.
