The LGBTQ community has been a target for years, so it is exactly why rallies like Pride show whether the powers that be are trying to silence those who think differently.
The use of the LGBTQ community for political purposes is a cheap charade. We will not be anyone's scapegoat. Those who organise Pride in Hungary, or stand up for themselves and each other in any way, are patriotic, dedicated and persistent citizens who want to make their home better at all costs.
When people are struggling to make a living, when families are faced with the question of whether we should buy lunch or pay the electricity bill at the end of the month, the government's task should not be to further restrict the fundamental right to freedom of the Hungarian people, but to find real solutions.
The slogan of this year's festival is "We are here (home)" [translators note: itt means here, itthon means home]
They tried a thousand different ways to silence, make invisible, intimidate and crush the LGBTQ community - without success. Our existence is as old as humanity: we have been here longer and will be here much longer than the politicians campaigning with exclusion.
There have been countless attempts to ban our march - they won't succeed this time either. Pride is a protest: if necessary, with twenty people, if needed, with tens of thousands , but it will happen.
