And it looks like now this person may have blocked you, thus orphaning your posts attempting to correct and clarify?

I’m not sure it’s possible to make this any funnier

Especially since the gospels repeatedly demonstrate that inefficiency is something God has no objection to

I was happy to discover that the Wikipedia entries for sites like Libgen and Anna’s are usually up to date on the latest working URLs (so that I could be extra careful not to end up on such sites of course)

“When fairly represented in Congress” is an enormous caveat

I think of the work done in religious communities as one example. One is remunerated in a sense (room and board etc), but that’s hardly why one does it. Could another example be volunteer work, especially of a relatively unstructured sort, like people just going out and picking up litter?

I think being actively engaged in creating and sustaining the world sounds deeply un-terrible to me - there’s a big difference between work done for its own sake and alienated labor! Work as how we respond to and care for the world vs work as what we get paid to do?

Not to mention that any confusion would presumably benefit them through the income they get from Kpop Demon Hunters fans inadvertently streaming their songs?

Not to defend Grok et al here, but I believe that’s the ”before” part of the before and after comparison (look at the details in the image on the right side)

Very true - I guarantee that Barron for example regards his various pro-Vance and pro-Trump activities as expressions of his being apolitical

If you actually look at the store in question, you’ll see that it’s a corner deli and not a proper grocery store. And note that corner delis often have the word grocery in their name.

um, massively disproportionate representation in the senate, for one

Not to mention that learning to “love others as oneself” is one of the primary modes of formal contemplative practice in Buddhism! See the Tibetan practice called Tonglen, or the cultivation of the Four Immeasurables (loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity)

OP posts on lots of Catholic topic stuff that makes me pretty sure he doesn’t think either of those things (but it’s a pity that here he resorts to the Catholic internet cliche that converts are the worst)

In Wilson’s review the metric isn‘t fidelity either; she praises other adaptations that radically reinterpret the material.

My conclusion is that there is an unfortunate cohort of guys for whom Nolan’s movies were formative who find any critique of his awful heavy-handedness intolerable since this constitutes a core part of their own identities 😔

Vajr @vajuko.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
And the tragedy is that movies for dudes used to be filled with wit and panache! And Nolan is one of the people most responsible for making post-9/11 (ie Global War on Terror era) movies for dudes so grim and awful!

Vajr @vajuko.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
She very clearly says that her issue is not with the “accuracy” of the adaptation, that inaccurate adaptations can be wonderful, and that what she finds fault with are the specific choices Nolan made in doing his adapting!

This thread is not nuanced, it’s an emotional whimper by someone who’s upset that Wilson “insults [Nolan’s] body of award winning film making”, as if earning awards meant his absurdly lugubrious films must be beyond reproach!
100
Vajr @vajuko.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
Oh no, how dare someone insult a body of heavy, ponderous, pseudo-serious but award-winning filmmaking!
050
Vajr @vajuko.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
Especially since her review even says the movie is fun!
060
Vajr @vajuko.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
But his point isn't fair at all! Wilson is clear that it's not simplifications etc that are the issue but the specific choices behind Nolan's simplifications!

I watched Schindler's List for the first time recently and the pop-smoothness of it all honestly made it read as a dark comedy; I kept having to remind myself that it was meant to be serious...

This is a scary one because it has broader appeal - the owner/editor/chief-blogger of one of the older and more prominent Dem commentary websites (he’s on here too but I won’t name him) is against dual citizenship, for example

I’ve never seen a window screen anywhere in Europe, but it’s not because people don’t open the windows! Germans would die if they couldn’t open the window, but no window screens in Germany

A manager was concerned that I was faking being sick because when I called in sick I would usually only take a day or two off whereas my European colleagues always took at least four days off any time they were sick 😂
