And, unless someone gives Putin some spare parts under the table to repair/rebuild some of the refineries, it is doubtful whether Russia can uphold their end of the bargain ...

I bet the Lukoil & Nord Stream deals figure in there somehow, as well.

A veritable conundrum isn't it ... a real brain-scratcher! BTW, given the volumes mentioned by the lying Orange Loudmouth, the prices won't go down noticeably unless the markets are prone to wishful thinking (and its a bit late for that).

However, such a post by tRump on a Friday does raise suspicion that another agenda might be at play than the one stated in the post. Let's see how the markets react and whether dubious trades are made on potential price fluctuations.

• Moscow extended the direct-producer export ban on diesel, marine fuel, and gas oils through October 31, 2026. • A nationwide gasoline and motor fuel export ban remains in place and has been extended through January 31, 2027. • Exceptions may apply to intergovernmental agreements and similar.

Interesting how tRump 1 was all up in arms criticizing Germany over Nordstream 2 and their reliance on Russian energy. tRump 2, on the other hand, sees a new US-Russian pipeline as a cash-cow and another tool to keep Germany and Europe as a whole, as a subservient, dependent vassal. Nazi wannabes.

There are 15 post-Soviet states in total: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Omitting Russia, that leaves 14. Some are still within Russia's "sphere of influence".

Selling diesel to Russia, on the other hand, undermines everything Ukraine and its allies are attempting to achieve. One must wonder what (and who) prompted South Korea to agree to such a sale, and what repercussions they might face going forward.

The overblown outrage from South Korea is all posturing for domestic political reasons. Calling the apology given insufficient, is rather ludicrous Putting a protracted spotlight on the transfer of NK POWs might even be counter-productive vis-a-vis North Korea.

Official statistics no longer being published, denotes that is has become increasingly impossible to hide the actual state of affairs. Increasing military focus and societal atrophy is already apparent, but it will become harder to evaluate to just what extent Russia is hurting.

TBH, ever since '22 the official Russian statistics have been nothing but fanciful, glossy fiction - contradicted by virtually all available statistics from other sources, whether from inside Russia or from external sources.

There is an underlying assumption running through the entire thread: Taking the Donbas is NOT the final objective, but a stepping stone from which to launch further attacks. The Russians on the front lines do recognize that Ukraine will go on fighting and currently possess several advantages.

Sorry, hadn't read up on the news: "The House passed the bill in a 262 to 159 vote on the final day that the lower chamber is in session before lawmakers leave Washington until after Election Day. Some 58 Democrats voted in favor of the bill, while seven Republicans voted in opposition. "

v-holmsen.bsky.social @v-holmsen.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
The House of Representatives is now out of session until after the Mid-terms, there will be a few months before they can put the bill to a vote. And even if it passes, the president will be able to selectively choose who to sanction and by how much. Without it, sanctions could still be imposed.

Having been Governor of the Bank of England during a crucial period, he will be well aware of both the advantages and pitfalls to an association with the EU and should be able to arrive at a mutually beneficial outcome.

Let's hope the cumbersome institutions and procedures of the EU doesn't halt or slow down the process too much - or puts up too many roadblocks or places too many restrictions on the relationship. Associate membership seems similar to the relationship with EFTA, but broader in some areas.

A highly predictable move by Canada, one which became evident with Carney's speech in Davos - seeking firmer ties with friends other than the USA, while opening up towards other regions (strategically, politically and economically). Canada is diversifying its networks with great speed.

Reuters trying to toe the tRump-line by specifically mentioning diesel. The first foundational step in refining crude oil is called fractional distillation, which separates the crude into lighter and heavier components (gasoline rises to the top, diesel stays in the middle).
