"The UK Turing Scheme has played a pivotal role in supporting outward student mobility since 2021, providing funding for over 200,000 UK students to access life-changing international study, work and volunteering experiences. It will therefore be disappointing for many students and universities to hear that the scheme will conclude after next year.

Since 2024, the UK has seen an increase in funding share across all three Horizon pillars, with strong talent attraction under Pillar I. It now remains to build on this and ensure the UK is well-placed to take advantage of collaborative opportunities. Learn more: loom.ly/AsW0jJ4

Pillar I shows a high point of 21.1% in 2015, followed by decline every year thereafter except in 2022, with an increase from 10% in 2021 to 11.7% in 2022, and in 2024, where there is an increase from the low point of 8.1% in 2023 to 13.8% in 2024. 

Pillar II shows a near-identical pattern, with a high of 13.2% in 2015 followed by consistent annual decline, a small increase of 0.4 percentage points between 2.9% in 2021 and 3.3% in 2022, and an increase from the low point in 2023 of 2.1% up to 5.9% in 2024. 

Pillar III shows a similar pattern, with a high of 14.9% in 2016 followed by consistent annual decline until 2022, where a reversal from the low point of 2.4% in 2021 is seen. There are increases in funding share in each year from 2022 to 2024, with UK organisations receiving 4.8% of all funding in 2024.
