I mean, CN wouldn't exist without the studio, the bones of Hanna-Barbera

I also don't think people realize that Warner Bros. Discovery was NEVER meant to be a "forever home" for the WarnerMedia assets It's telling that all the focus is on the WarnerMedia assets, and John Malone and David Zaslav knew that without them, Discovery would be a junk heap nobody wanted to buy

If the "Warner Bros. curse" is real, it works the opposite way from how people think it does It's not the studio cursing the buyers, it's the buyers cursing the studio with lousy management

Don't they WANT to kill the disruptive market?

I think it's also just more socially acceptable to be - for lack of a better word - a "kidult" than it was, say, 20 years earlier

Isn't it something how Time Inc./Time-Life has gone from "towering corporate behemoth" to "essentially nonexistent"

You would think that a state like CO would have better infrastructure, being a cradle of the cable industry and all

I wasn't entirely sure if Cartoon Network was getting the MGM treatment or not, where the library is separated from the brand name and actual operating organization

I was grouping the channels and the IP together Since they're both multimedia machines in which the channels themselves are just cogs The same was true of MTV and Discovery in their heyday, and the same is true of CNN and ESPN now (and, kinda-sorta, Bravo)

Basic cable buttered their bread, and indeed allowed them to even afford the bread, for decades The cable business has slowly dug its own grave for years, and they have done very little to actually try to save it

I just want to say, that I think it's really fucking sad how the Discovery Channel, TLC, and Animal Planet went from beloved edutainment brands to garbage nobody wants to touch in the span of like 20 years

Cure Sky @utilis.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I would add Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network to that list, although they are increasingly nostalgia brands like Hanna-Barbera

Cure Sky @utilis.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
They might have to sell some channels, although they might cling to any IP associated with them for dear life And who's to say such channels don't end up like the Fox RSNs, easy pickings for providers who want to drop them now that they lack the leverage of their old conglomerate owner?

Basic cable channels have traditionally had fat profit margins, and ones like the Food Network and truTV (which, in particular, seemed to be devised as Turner Broadcasting's release valve for reality garbage) had lower budgets even in the go-go days Cord-cutting is, of course, going to test this

It's just fucking insane that THIS is what has become of Viacom and Time Warner, which were, when I was growing up, two of the biggest, baddest media companies on the planet Even Discovery Communications used to have dignity, and the less said about Scripps, the better...

Being neurodivergent is noticing the tiny problem nobody else sees, mentioning it three times, getting told you're overthinking, and then watching the exact problem become everyone's emergency six weeks later. Suddenly everyone has noticed it. Somehow nobody remembers you noticed it first.

Given that she implemented the TRO two days ahead of the deadline she imposed on her decision, I think there's a non-zero chance she rejects the settlement It shows me that she thought the AGs had a strong case

I feel like people don't truly understand just how massive this deal is How many times have people seen a logo for Paramount? Warner Bros.? New Line Cinema? Viacom? Republic Pictures? Spelling? Worldvision? King World? Lorimar? Telepictures? Turner? Hanna-Barbera? All would be one company

I really don't understand the practical difference considering that what was once Viacom was already technically based out of New York, and the Melrose lot only became the corporate HQ for that whole thing once Skydance took over

Its supposed emotional core, with LeBron James' fictional son Dom wanting to "do me" (Dom, do me, get it?) was completely drowned out by a bunch of other stuff At least we got to see a bunch of obscure Hanna-Barbera characters and such rendered in 3D
