In 2018, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights released An Assessment of Minority Voting Rights Access in the United States. The report looked at voting access for minority communities across the country and reviewed how the Department of Justice enforced the Voting Rights Act after 2006.

Today marks the 61st anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This landmark law helped remove unfair barriers that kept many Americans, especially Black Americans, from voting. It also created federal protections to help ensure that eligible citizens could take part in our democracy.
