I believe Putin looked at the state Russia was in and where he wanted Russia to be, and he saw, that Russia lacked the resources (people and industry the USSR had) to achieve this. And then he eyed Ukraine, Moldova, Kazakhstan and so on, resources the USSR had and lost. He knew he'd meet resistance.

Yes. Russia has clearly overstepped a line way before 2022, wherever there is dissent in Europe, Russian propaganda is at it. Not say, that there is no cause for dissent here and there, but it would probably in most cases not boil as hot as with propaganda interference.

Ich wäre danach nie auf die Idee gekommen, dass es dort rechtstaatlich zugeht, oder dass Deutschland eine Bedrohung für ein solches Land im Sinne einer militärischen Bedrohung sei. Genau andersherum, ich habe Russland als bedrohlich wahrgenommen.

Ich würde normalerweise Empfehlen mal nach Russland zu fahren (jetzt natürlichnicht). Ich habe als Jugendlicher schon gemerkt, und das war zu Zeiten Jelzins, dass das Land um einiges unfreier und rauher war als bei uns, schon die fest geohrfeigten 15-jährigen Kadetten, die mir morgens begegneten.

Ich weiß noch, als mir jemand erzählte, dass er irritiert sei, dass die jungen Mitarbeiter in der Firma die Mobiltelefone bei Gesprächen auf den Tisch legen würden und sogar hin und wieder darauf schauten. Im Gegensatz dazu betrachteten die älteren Kollegen das als respektlos.

I remember that this was a Russian strategy in 2023/24. T-62s were used for this. I don't know if the Russian one were actually remote controlled or just set on course and abandoned. The explosions were massive and feared back then, but Ukrainian drones where quite effective back then.

Und dann gibt es da noch das Budapester Memorandum, wo man den Ukrainern die Atomwaffen der Sowjetunion im Gegenzug für das Versprechen der Verteidigung der Souveränität "abkaufte". Auch Russland, dass Ukraine später angriff und schon 2003 versuchte eine Ukrainische Insel zu annektieren.

Nun ja, genug dazu. Ukraine zu verteidigen heißt das Völkerrecht zu verteidigen. Man steht damit auf der Seite des Rechts. 2014 hat man das versäumt, damals hat Putin das Recht schon mit Füßen getreten, und heute wissen wir viel mehr Details über die Ereignisse, auch aus russischen Quellen.

Und in Deutschland gibt es sicherlich genausoviele Bewunderer von Verbrecherischen Poltikern wie in Russland. Und auch in Ukraine gibt es die. Bandera, Hitler, Stalin. Deutschland ist da sicherlich vorbildlicher als Ukraine und Russland, wo man den Massenmörder Stalin wieder rehabilitiert.

Die EU unterstützt nicht die Rechtsextremen sondern die gewählte ukrainische Regierung, die Ihr Land nach dem Völkerrecht verteidigt. Nationalisten gibt es auch dort, genauso wie in Russland und in Deutschland. In Ukraine haben rechte Parteien aber geringere Wählerschaft als in Deutschland.
