I also find that period really really fascinating. It's an alternate American culture almost entirely, for a hundred different reaasons.

They are so cool. But yeah for Americans I think it's more Hollywood and 1930s airship aesthetics.

I think like, every element of Elden Ring is fine, even good, maybe even Great. But as a whole it is Too Much™

Yeah. Is it radar and associated technologies that got rid of them, then? That would make sense.

I was thinking about this looking at that painting. Culturally they feel like a pre-war thing, something that only existed after that as a motif for the Golden Age of Hollywood and then was completely gone with the studio system.

British millenials probably already know but did you know there is a Welsh-Russian abridged adaptation of Macbeth starting Brian Cox?

I just looked it up. Apparently only on HBO here. So the rich kids got it 🙄. I would've been a bit too young anyway, though.

Claude Francis Barry’s paintings of WW1 are amongst the most accomplished of his works, with his images of searchlights across London being the most evocative - here (1918) he used small concentrated dots of colour to create an atmospheric haze of light.

"Animated Classics" is the series? Really cool stuff. And yeah maybe it's the British-ness showing through but I'm looking at these together and thinking, "That's Warhammer". I can see it.

It's my first Chinese android handheld really since the whole scene started. I had the original emulation handheld (the PSP) and a Steam Deck, but this thing is just perfect for me. 4:3, plays 6th-gen consoles really well, super small and a GORGEOUS screen. I guess it's what I was waiting for.

I did finally beat Castlevania! Dracula is a huge difficulty spike, but if you can get past his first phase the second phase is super cheese-able with holy water. Overall a fun, enjoyable time.

Castlevania 1 for NES "Thank you for playing" end screen. Showing a forest with Dracula's castle crumbling in the background.

I bought tons of retro CG books from Japan, btw. The package was 12 kg (!). “We can’t do this anymore, we forgot how” will not be a thing anymore. Will post more photos in the thread.

I was trying to build a "cyber"punk TTRPG setting that was entirely analog, broadcast technology-based. I was very quickly 😵‍💫 trying to learn even basic broadcast things. The radio and TV nerds overwhelmed me instantly.

Also, there are the tons of things that only Adobe products can do. Often the best alternatives are GREAT for the 90% case, it's that damn 10% that gets you. Which sucks, because Adobe does seem dedicated to making their software buggier, more dysfunctional and useless with every release.

Substance Designer rules and is (so far 🤞🏻) largely uncorrupted by it's owners. I will continue to support Allegorithmic, pretend they're still using the old logo and ignore their benefactors as long as I can.
