ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 20/05/2026I'm a little tardy commenting but I love this song. It's a real heartbreaker. Love is as precious an emotion as we humans experience. The vulnerability it creates in us is why it is so powerful, but also why it hurts so much when it doesn't work out. This song captures that duality perfectly. 010
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 01/12/2025Come on Kev, pull your finger out. The one thing I always say about you is that you are simply not investing enough time recording podcasts 😂 Enjoy your visit and tell Corey I said hi. I'll be chatting to him about Scrooged very soon, hopefully. 110
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 01/12/2025Thanks so much for having me on the show, I really enjoyed chatting to you guys. Sad to hear that you are bringing things to a close but they say to leave them wanting more so your timing feels right. Exciting to learn there is a new project on the horizon as well! 131
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 01/12/2025I know appeals to the Lord aren't necessarily literal and don't automatically put me off but it does usually mean a song needs to work a bit harder to win me over. I'll give this one more time to see if it's a grower but 6 out of 10 for me. Can't wait to hear your special Freddie episode! 110
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 01/12/2025I'd fallen behind but all caught up now. Last week's song, Like a Diamond, is another low key classic. Not quite very top tier Tom, but it's excellent. This week I'm not sold on the song as much. I do like the main riff and your episode really brought out more of the subtleties of the music. 110
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 16/10/2025the defiantly non-melodic and aggressive vibe; the menacing sleazy atmosphere; and that unsettling feeling of wrongness. It's not a comfortable listen but it is real and, just like The Wall, it's a soundtrack to a vivid and powerful story. 110
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 16/10/2025Great episode. You've articulated the essence of this song brilliantly. The first time I heard it, only a couple of weeks ago, the feel of it instantly put me in mind of Pink Floyd, and specifically the section of the album The Wall when it all starts to psychologically unravel for the protagonist: 120
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 04/10/2025Another brilliantly constructed and vivid song. I see it as a mirror to Into The Great Wide Open. It has a similar style and pace, both telling a very literal story about a journey through the music industry, but one is about the wonder of possibility and the other is crushingly cynical. 010
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 04/10/2025Very nice writing, Kev. I see you've gone a bit viral on FB as well! 110
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 28/09/2025I don't know the album well enough yet to confidently comment but I'm interested in what you make of 'Joe'. It reminds me fairly strongly of a specific album by a specific band, not one I'd ordinarily associate with Tom, but I don't know if it's an obvious connection or just a 'me' thing. 010
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 28/09/2025Really strong opening track. Razor sharp satire wrapped up in a great pop melody, and the whole thing sounds assured and smooth. The "last human voice" line, which is the emotional core of the song, has never seemed more relevant in our world of rapidly advancing AI. 010
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 30/08/2025We'll still get some nice days in September. Cooler evenings here to stay though. 000
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 22/08/2025Oooh you went a bit viral there. That's cool. It does seem random but that happened because you wrote a post in a way that connected with people. So it was your writing, really. 010
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 16/08/2025I was walking to work the other day listening on my headphones and this song really hit me hard, to the point where I was holding back the tears. I'm putting it up there with Room At The Top and Echo on an emotional level. They are the big 3 from the album for me, but lots of other great songs too. 110
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 09/08/2025I love this song. Probably my favourite of his. 000
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 06/08/2025Which album? I'm still listening to Tull. Slowly seeping in. Thick as a Brick and A Passion Play are the latest I've listened to. 110
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 31/07/2025Lyrically, this one almost risks falling into accidentally silly territory with its simple rhymes and extended animal based imagery, but instead it succeeds in being real and hard-hitting. Cracking song, and you guided us through it expertly, as always 110
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 30/07/2025I'm a bit behind but listened to this today. Very well crafted and heartfelt tribute. Also, always great to hear that Kevin Brown belting out a tune. Fine work from that fella. 010
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 29/06/2025I think your summary was fair. It's a decent and pleasant enough song, but quite lightweight by Tom's standards. 010
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 26/06/2025media.tenor.comsnoopy is sitting at a table with his eyes closed and his hand on his face .ALT: snoopy is sitting at a table with his eyes closed and his hand on his face . 010
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 23/06/2025It was fascinating to hear your insight into Mike and Tom's relationship and how Tom responded to his later songwriting efforts. I'll have to read Mike's book at some point. I think Mike has smashed it here. Very simple but it has a spiky, rocky attitude that I really like. Cool song. 110
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 21/06/2025I understand. I know you aren't criticising, just reflecting on how you felt, but lesson learnt on my part. I'm happy to avoid politics on there and generally do. Just drifted into it yesterday, as a tangent from the FB convo, which was already a tangent from the most popular song dusted question. 010
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 16/06/2025As an aside, I semi-coincidentally rewatched Young Guns last week, with Emilio Estevez playing Billy the Kid. It doesn't hold up quite as well as I'd hoped from my teen memories, but still very slick and good capering fun. 110
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 16/06/2025I like this one. Similar theme to Won't Last Long and Swinging, with that sense of fighting back in hard times, and after some of the bleaker songs it's a welcome contrast. The verses give context and depth to the ultimately defiant sentiment, and it's a catchy chorus that you can get behind it. 110
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 11/06/2025I hope this doesn't seem insensitive to your frustration. Public transport (in my case trains) also regularly drives me a bit mad, so I sympathise. But I can't let this one pass without commenting on your wonderful use of the phrase willy-nilly. Great work! 110
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 04/06/2025For me personally, it's not that I don't care about your transport issues, I suppose I just don't have much to add to that conversation. Trips around Scotland sound interesting to me but I probably just miss your updates sometimes because I forget to check my feed regularly. 010
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 03/06/2025I don't really keep up with Bluesky. I only really come on to comment on Tom Petty Project or sometimes Lord of Adders Black, and I might occasionally get more involved, but mostly I forget. I'll be sorry to see you go, Chrissy, but I'm sure I'll be seeing you on Discord 🙂 110
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 02/06/2025Excellent episode this week with Nic. He's a great talker and you work really well together. How about this: the first 2 'scenes' in Echo are a dream and in the 3rd verse he's waking up from his dream in a pool of sweat. Might explain why the narrative is so fragmented, as that's what dreams do... 000
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 24/05/2025I think you've called this one right. It's a solid rocker. Not quite at the very level of some of the others but an enjoyable album track. 010
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 19/05/2025You did a great job breaking down the lyrics on this one, and particularly the changes of perspectives across the verses. I love this song. Probably pips Room At The Top for best track on the album. It is sad, dark and emotionally captivating. 000
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 12/05/2025This track offers a nice change of vibe from the melancholy and even bitter edge of some of the songs. It's a sweet, catchy and well crafted pop song, and the neat little angle of being 'accused' elevates it to more than it might otherwise have been. 010
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 06/05/2025It's a cool song. Definitely a grower because I didn't take to it on first listen but the more I hear it, the more I like the feel of it. One of those songs where the basic song is perhaps little bit repetitive but once it clicks you can really sink into the vibe. 000
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 28/04/2025Yet another high quality, heart-wrenching song. I liked your UCC style scoring this week! I am a big fan of this one and I think I'm going to give it 9/10. 010
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 28/04/2025Excellent work. Great to hear you together in person. I think we need a backstory on Mocha don't we? Interesting takes on the Blackadder character and series ranking. I'm reserving a verdict until I've finished my rewatch but I think I'll end up similar, but a little different to both of you. 121
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 24/04/2025Oh yes. I know him well. I just didn't register. He's obviously a master of disguise, like the Scarlet Pimpernel himself! Either that or I'm a bit slow, but I'm sure that can't be the explanation 😆 020
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 24/04/2025Just listened to complete my marathon catch-up! Top episode and Tyler was great. Fun to hear his "controversial" takes. I never realised that it was Chris Barrie in Nob and Nobility and even though I watched it only yesterday sorry to say it still didn't twig until I listened to your episode!! 221
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 16/04/2025I like it but I have to say that the line "I remember him touching your butt" jars for me. It's way too clunky, which is unlike Tom. The admirable sentiment and genuine feeling behind the song could better have been served by something less on the nose. Outside of that, I think it's great. 010
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 15/04/2025Congratulations. That's an incredible milestone. 000
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 11/04/2025Yet another excellent song. I don't know Mojo in enough detail yet to say how it would fit there, but agree with you it has a touch of Wildflowers. Which can only be a good thing. 000
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 05/04/2025And lo and behold, who should appear only a couple of episodes later. Excellent guest spot @kevbrowncanada.bsky.social, thank you for sharing your experience of serving in the military. 110
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 04/04/2025It really is. They have a natural rapport. Both very likeable, articulate and their enthusiasm is infectious. I'm enjoying how varied the podcast is episode to episode, mixed in with some fun regular features. And of course I'm loving the conscious effort at Queen references! 140
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 04/04/2025I'm really enjoying ploughing through the @lordofaddersblack.bsky.social podcast. I'm about 8 episodes into the podcast and 3 episodes into series 1 of Blackadder, which will no doubt end up in a full rewatch of all 4 series. Brilliant programme and top class podcast. 251
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 02/04/2025I think this was one of your best episodes yet. Absolutely absorbing on both the music and lyrical content, and it made me appreciate the nuances of the song that much more. Maybe pushing your luck with the bat joke though...😂 I have to agree it's a brilliant song that packs a real emotional punch. 000
ursell66.bsky.social @ursell66.bsky.social · 22/03/2025I'm up for the weirdo prog. Just need to take my time and let it properly absorb as I go. 110
