yeah the issue with the Particular game I'm trying to play is it just looks like shit no matter what. if it detects you have under 16gb your graphics are basically locked at medium even if you select "high" or "ultra" which is annoying that they don't disclose this

yup okay just opened up wilds. cpu stable, memory at 67% but stable, but literally when shit loads my hdd caps, then the ssd will take over and also cap while the hdd goes down to 0%, and THEN the hdd goes back up once the game starts and is loaded. gotta be the hdd I think

my sdd also shoots up in usage for like a split second sometimes before the hdd does its thing. I'm thinking either it's VRAM (unfortunate, idk how good 8gb of VRAM is tho) or it is truly just the hard drive being slow

I didn't notice any notable changes in memory though. rn it's at ~57% or so bc of my browser but it didn't like spike bad or anything with xiv open. I actually think it was lower after the browser closed even with the game. good sign maybe??

I HAVE LEARNED SOME THINGS someone elsewhere mentioned to run a game with task manager open and see if anything is capping. when I load between areas my hdd shoots up to like 95-97% and goes back down. I also. think my gpu is indeed too hot bc my pc is clocking it at like ~60 degrees C w/ xiv open,,

like once xiv gets up and running for a bit it's fine for the most part. but loading between places is slow as hell and it hates other players existing (especially limsa. but not always!) older/non-mmo games are fine though! no issue with those

if you mean boot as in boot from off, nope and nope, runs like a dream! only thing I can note is whenever I start up xiv it'll say at the top "not responding" instantaneously when that has never been the case, game always starts up okay (I like to think windows is just impatient)

tbf the game itself DOES explicitly warn me "you need to run this on an ssd for it to run smoothly" but at the same time xiv also has a LOT of trouble in pvp, alliance raids, and places where many effects/characters are happening at once. pc runs fine everywhere else tho!

actually what rly is setting me off abt it is the game has sooooo many moments where it wants to show off. "woow look at this food look at this liquid effect look at all these TREES and ANIMALS" and every time it looks like smth from my 3ds and I have to sit there politely like "😐🧍‍♂️ ok"
