I worked at home this morning, then walked to the library a little after noon, found a new book, and read for a while. I recently visited Northern Akita in the fall. I feasted on fruits, wild mountain vegetables, seafood and golden honey; basked in the pleasant, dry breeze that seemed to sink into my skin; and returned to Tokyo after a kind of spiritual cleansing. Starting today, I’ll resume making videos and music.

I think it’s important to stop the moment I catch myself thinking,“I want one more bite,” “I want one more drink,”or “I want to keep working on this a little longer.” Whether it’s music production or everyday life,I believe that stopping about 20% short of full satisfaction helps sustain motivation.

My favorite seasons in Japan,fall & winter,are finally here. Music seems to resonate with me more deeply than it does in summer. But fall & winter can only exist because summer does. I have been having a lot of fun trying to identify the sound sources for some of the noises in the first track here, Lobulated. The sound that explodes as this song begins sounds almost like a primal scream and I want to know so badly what it actually is. Reminds me almost of a hardcore metal track!

I got this Paul Panhuysen LP at an incredibly cool record store in Sendai. The music on it was some of the most impactful I’ve heard. The massive sound created by stretching multiple strings across a space and making them resonate felt as if it were boiling the cerebrospinal fluid inside my body.

I’ve come to Sendai. I wanted to edit the video for the online live performance I’d announced and mix one of my tracks in an environment different from Tokyo. The city was bustling with its famous Tanabata Festival, so I took a walk. The gentle summer atmosphere of Tohoku seemed to embrace my music.

I just found out—rather belatedly—that a remake of "Resident Evil (Biohazard in Japan) Code: Veronica," announced a month ago, is on the way. I’ve been so excited that I’ve had the soundtrack on repeat since yesterday. It’s amazing how the story unfolds in your mind just from listening to the music.
