The City is spending millions of dollars fighting to prevent housing from being built on a golf course. Can you think of anything better that the city could spend its time and our money on? I can.

With the Ottawa Police’s abysmal approach to traffic enforcement and the justice system’s extremely lax sentencing for dangerous driving, it’s no wonder stop signs have become nearly meaningless. We need better street design, like raised crossings at intersections, to change driver behaviour.

Let’s make sure that this destruction of a park and public art leads to Mark Sutcliffe being a one-term mayor.
Multiple excavators and heavy equipment are seen at Lansdowne Park removing the public art piece “Moving Surfaces” and digging up the park. The North Stands, also slated for demolition, dominate the background. Crossings like this with stop signs should have raised, continuous sidewalks to force drivers to slow down, and to flip the dynamic so that drivers know and consciously feel that they are on space that belongs to pedestrians.

NEW- We’ve discovered 7 concerning issues with the new information on Lansdowne 2.0 released by the city just one week ago- 1) $17.4 million per year (not $4.3 million) is being carved out of Ottawa’s Budget until 2070 to pay for Lansdowne 2.0 debt ($696 million in payments).

There’s light rain in #Ottawa today. That means that, at many crosswalks, water is pooling where the sidewalk dips down to meet the road. It’s worse when snowbanks form in winter. Raised crossings should be standard on all side streets where a stop-sign exists. This is one of many reasons why.

Pin curbs are finally being installed on Lees Avenue. This will go a long way to improve safety and reduce speeding. @bikeottawa.bsky.social
